"Coach Rice loves softball, but her mentality of playing the same players and expecting different results is her downfall. Her player retention is so incredibly low for a reason. Most girls quit by their senior year and choose not to transfer because Slippery Rock is a great school with amazing programs. It’s a shame one coach can ruin the game for so many good players. "
"Stacey Rice was an okay practice coach. She has no game time decision making capability, and is open about how she doesn’t understand numbers. Her mismanagement of her team always has, and always will lead to late season disappointments. She starts the season off by preaching family, then school, then softball, and by the end of the season asks you to shirk your academic responsibilities because “you won’t remember them in a few years”. She is not open to feedback from anyone, to the point that her (very knowledgeable) assistant coach has apologized for questioning game time decisions. She often touts the fact that very few players have transferred from her team, but she will never tell you how many have quit, which is only a testament to the quality of slippery rock university, and not her ability as a coach. The only people that feel positively about her were the few that were given countless opportunities and those who prioritized sport over school. The only reason Slippery Rock Softball has seen recent success is due to a culture shift led by the players, and any successes should be attributed only to the athlete’s ability to overcome an exceptionally mediocre and astoundingly stubborn coach. The only reason she is still in her position is due to the fact that she is an alumni herself."
"The worst coach I have ever had. She has a terrible game plan and does not coach to win. She is not honest when you come to her with questions on how to improve and is indirect. She consistently has a great roster, yet continues to find a way to lose because she only plays favorites. She creates a toxic environment and destroys the confidence in the majority of her players due to her inconsistency and dishonesty, while fostering a culture of fear to mess up. She has made many of her past athletes hate the game."
"If you work hard, are humble, welcome constructive-criticsm, and constantly work an open line of communication with her, you will have a fantastic experience at SRU. Coach Rice expects her players to be adults. She understands college kids makes mistakes, but when it comes to working on the field, you need to work. She will meet you in the middle if you have a good attitude and give it your all. If you’re lazy and make excuses, as with any coach, you will not earn your spot. She always has an open door policy and encourages her players to come to her with anything, whether it’s academics, playing time, or just telling her how your day went. The coaching staff asks for feedback on new drills and ideas from the players too, which proved to be critical in SRU’s recent playoff run. If you love softball, and I mean really love it, you definitely should play for Coach Rice! I regret nothing and loved my time here."
"Coach Rice doesn’t know her players. She has favorites who get an unlimited number of opportunities. If you are not one of those, one mistake and you will ride the bench for years. She is very good at eliminating confidence in players and the coaching decisions can not be understood. It’s so bad that the league umpires talk about her as the laughing stick of the psac. Stay away at all costs. Stacy is a bully - never takes responsibility for anything. As a player it’s almost impossible to overcome the other team and your own coach to win. "
"I often have mixed feelings about Ray, but I do have to say she knows the game. She has a lot of experience playing and coaching successful teams. Her coaching technique is often intense and cut throat, but she gets the job done. If you need someone to baby you, you would not enjoy being coached by Ray. However, if you operate well with tough love, Ray is your girl. Overall, I respect her as a coach and I don’t often question her in regard to Field Hockey. On the other hand, she sometimes only sees us as players and not humans. She doesn’t take peoples emotional and mental needs into consideration and doesn’t care how we feel, she just wants us to preform well. "
"LL is an awful coach and she has made me hate volleyball. She has been at SRU for 40 years and has not produced a winning team. This woman is borderline a predator and is very inappropriate towards her athletes. She gets away with it because of title 9 and no one suspects her to be sexual toward the girls. Not to mention she encourages a terrible team culture and pits girls against each other. She has no regard for anyone’s concerns about her decisions and has made it known that if we have a problem we can leave the team. I don’t want to get into specifics or it will reveal my identity, but take my word for it you don’t want to play for this woman’s team. LL does not care about her players and needs to retire asap so she doesn’t make future players hate the sport. "
"Honestly terrible coach. Delivers nothing but losing seasons and is a hypocritical coach. She's behind the times and cannot keep up with her athletes or the sport of volleyball. It's sad and I hope for the teams sake she retires soon. "
"Very honest about how things are done. She is very knowledgeable about the game and has a lot of experience. She is dedicated to motivate the player to create a trusting team culture. She is also really chill. "
"I really enjoyed my short time with Coach Swiney. She is very approachable and realistic about what she asks of her players. Her knowledge is undeniable and she is able to express how each player can change into a role that is needed from them. "
