"This guy honestly sucks and he’s a psycho. He has no self awareness and thinks he is at the top of the whole lacrosse world. He got bullied in college and now that he is in a powerful position he is abusing it against 20 year olds."
"This guys is awful haven’t had a good season here yet and the big guy is to blame don’t fall for the trap he will make your life miserable. Only reason he still coaches is for free Giovanis Pizza. They are running a ponzi scheme keeping him a float. The AD is paid off too. Pretends like he cares but knows it’s not his problem as long as the checks keep rolling in. Traveling with the team is a nightmare short staffed no room on bus sleeping on floors in hotels and staying up way to late. Never a good experience. "
"Creates a hostile work environment for this players and scares change away. It is well documented and known in the community that there is a problem with the Lacrosse program. Although there have been extremely talented players that have carried to the program to countless MAC championships, the program will never advance further unless something is done about the coaching staff. "
"Didn’t know much about the school until my son was recruited there. Coach Licht was awesome and really provided so much information about the school and how great the program is. He’s also very into the lacrosse program and my son really connected with him. It was great to get to know all the parents and the team. Outstanding group of people. "
"I’ve always known coach to be a direct guy. Tells it like it is and you always know where you stand with him. Open to conversations with players if they have issues and encourages players to seek out that conversation. "
"Worked with coach in many different capacities. Knowledgeable and always evolving. I always look forward to the time I get to spend with him chatting about lacrosse. "
"So happy I sent my son to Stevens. Thought all the coaches were great but he especially like coach liht. Looking forward to cheering the team on next year. "
"Knows how to bring in great staff. Always has great assistants who know the game. Right now Lederer and Light are a great combo. Both know their stuff. "
"This is a coach you want in your corner. Does a lot for his team and the lacrosse community. Always looking for new opportunities to give to his player and for the growth of the game. "
"He knows he is a terrible coach and terrible human being deep down. Asking players to give him good reviews is ridiculous, I would think if you were a good coach you would automatically get good reviews. This guy is a fraud and knows he got away with a lot of sus things in the past and now it’s catching up to him. Don’t even get me started on why he “resigned” from RIT. This guy has it coming and the truth will be told."
"Coach cares about his players. I am now working in a highly competitive field due to coach’s connections and willingness to connect me with alumni. Provides references for his players to help with life after Stevens."
"Horrible coach. Treated my son like a number, did not care about his injuries, implored him to play through when he could barely walk. Publicly embarrassed him in front of the entire team multiple times about his choice of major and his playing time. Extremely unprofessional coach. It’s incredibly disgusting that Stevens still employs him. Any corporate job would fire him immediately. "
"Horrible lacrosse coach. His way or the high way. Easiest person to out coach because he refuses to change. Treats his players like a piece of garbage on the side of the road. Extreme nepotism. Made an award for his son who without him would never come close to being on the stevens lacrosse team. Does not give players a fair shot and has extreme favorites. Would not recommend ever. "
"Passionate coach who knows his stuff. Have known Gene for years through many different interactions in the lacrosse community and presentations he has given. Learned tons from him. He’s an asset in NJ lacrosse circles. "
"Great leader! He knows his stuff and makes players toe the line. He has strong expectations and ensures that his team is respectful to all members of the Stevens community. I appreciate coach holding my son accountable to help him become a functioning member of the community. "
"This is the worst coach in college lacrosse. The fact he still has a job after failing to make a run in the tournament with the talent the roster has is insane. He is holding this team back with his clears and rides and 0 motivation to any players. He chokes in big games and doesn’t prepare his players. He treats them AND fellow coaches with disrespect and needs an ego check. "
"I was told about site from another parent. I know first hand about peluso’s knowledge and reputation. All very strong respect in NJ and nationally. Does a lot for the kids. He is “old school” and that may rub people the wrong way but our experiences have been very positive."
"Great coach who is always willing to have honest discussions with his players about their growth. Runs a fantastic career event that connects his players with alumni that can lead to internships or jobs after graduation. As a parent, I appreciate all of the opportunities to help my son succeed in life on and off the field. "
"Coach is passionate about the game and is competitive which is what you want to be successful. My son has enjoyed playing for him and has learned a lot about the game of lacrosse in his transition from high school. "
"Coach gives honest feedback and plays the most talented players. This may not go over well with some, but as a whole, the team knows coach looks at the depth chart and sets up the team for success. You can’t argue facts - just look at the our record in the national rankings year after year. Go Ducks! "
"My kid plays for coach Peluso and I appreciate the fact that he cares about the students as student athletes. He knows the pressures of the academics at Stevens and he allows the students opportunities to excel in the classroom. The athletes are given personal days if needed to focus on academics and mental health. As a parent I know there is more than the game of lacrosse and I appreciate that coach sees that as well. "
"Have played for coach for a few years now and he has been supportive and is always available. He has no problem giving honest feedback in what needs improvement so I can see more of the field. I appreciate his directness. "
"Not sure how he is getting 5 star reviews. Stevens must be really stupid if they keep him on board. Almost all of the New Jersey lacrosse community heard about what a terrible person and coach he is. Stevens will be getting a bad rep if they continue to support him. "
"My son has had a great experience playing for Coach Peluso! Not only does he care about his players on the field but he cares tremendously about his players life after their collegiate career. He set my son up for success outside of the playing field; which is what we all wish for as parents. I encourage anyone looking for a great college experience head on over to Stevens. "
"He has made me fall out of love with a game I have been playing for 18 years. Worst coach I have ever had, which is a shame because if Stevens had a good coach we would have been more successful."
"Absolutely awful. Beyond coaching (which he is also terrible at); Genuinely a bad person. Can’t help but thinking the positive reviews on this site reflect his own or his camps thoughts on the situation. Seriously a deeply angry man who uses his position as a college coach to take that anger out on young adults. I don’t know what else can be done. Players going back years have pleaded for his removal with the school but these pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Embarrassing for the program, athletic department, and school as a whole. "
"Not loyal. High grade of nepotism. Worst second half team in the top 15 D3 programs. If you are a freshman, sophomore, you will not receive playing time for the Stevens Ducks. "
"Worst coach I’ve ever had. Ruins the game of lacrosse and doesn’t try to develop players. The team would be way more successful without him. He does not change his plays or systems that do not work against good teams and the players skill is the reason Steven’s has had success. He is holding the program back "
"Coach Peluso insults his players on a daily basis to the point where they are forced to either sacrifice their mental health or quit. He is by far the worst coach I’ve ever played for over my 10+ years of playing lacrosse. I would never recommend anyone to play for him. "
"This guy blows. I played for him for 4 years. He consistently showed up late, personally insulted players, and was highly unprofessional. Would’ve rather played for a broomstick than that oaf. "
"Rough experience with this head coach from the nepotism to being disrespectful to players and not caring about there time. He loves to hear himself speak and will ramble on in circles for a while in huddles and speeches to team/families. He has no idea what a halftime adjustment is or how to implement them which has been a contributing factor to his awful record against ranked opponents during the regular season and playoffs. "
"Coach Chornyei is the worst coach I’ve had at any level. He is manipulative and creates a toxic culture. He wants desperately to be a head coach and will never be successful. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this awful person. "
"My first year on team and I like playing for him. He pushes you to work hard and play fast. He is funny, last week equated our defense slide package to a bar fight and said if your friend has to bail you out of a bar fight you have to stick around for a little bit and get some shots in and not just immediately retreat."
"Coach has been like family to me. Cares about me and my teammates and wants us to be successful on and off the field. After tough loss yesterday he told us we are winners and that he respects us. "
"He is however very hypocritical in what he says. He preaches one thing and acts in a totally different way. He isolates goalkeepers from the rest of the team through his comments and creates a level of disrespect between players. He plays favorites and condones behavior for some players that would otherwise not be acceptable."
"Just a bad coach with ego issues. Everything needs to be on his dime 24/7. Terrible at handling emotions in games, leading to producing one of the worst second half teams in college lacrosse. Shows up 30 mins late to practice daily.
He’s seen as a great coach on the outside because of his record. However, it’s pretty easy to recruit guys to a top academic school in the NYC area and pump bottom of the barrel teams by 20 goals to get his winning record up. Anyone with a pulse could do that. Pretty sure he has less than 10 top 10 wins in his coaching career. None of his wins are quality.
Changes need to be made at Stevens to be successful. "
