"“Leader” of perennial losing soccer program. Extremely mean spirited and disrespectful individual. Be cautious…manages up but steps on everyone else. Unfortunately AD will learn the hard way. "
"Really great guy. New to coaching but has tons of potential. Knows how to motivate, lead, and talk to his team. Also a great asset in the gym as an extra person to play in practice. Perfect amount of intensity and fun. "
"The most immature adult coach I have ever had. Extremely unfair. Plays favorites. Passionate about volleyball but not very knowledgeable. Throws tantrums during games. So beyond rude. "
"Steve was an awesome coach for the short time. He stepped in to the head coaching role and improved the team over the spring season. We would not be as successful as we are without him. "
"Terrible person. Ruined my college athletics experience. Mentally and verbally abusive. Extremely old school. Plays favorites and instigates fights between players. Crushes your spirit everyday. "
"The focus is not on academics, practice times seemed to be picked based off convenience, rather than what made it possible for athletes to take the classes they needed. multiple athletes quit bc of this, and nothing changed. Also seemed to be too sarcastic to the point where it was mean."
"Extremely positive, energetic and motivational, showed tremendous care for his players, helped players succeed in all aspects of life. A true “players coach” "
"Many of the kids in my class, and in the class above me quit and transferred out. That should tell you all you need to know... Quiz this buffoon on his current roster and he will only know 15 names tops. And the teams average GPA while I was there was under 3.0 — let that sink in. Go elsewhere In the ACC or Ivy League if you can pull the offer"
"He comes from coaching the men’s Olympic team to coaching women’s rowing for the first time at Cuse. He is extremely intense, and makes everyone feel like he hates them. However, he knows what he is talking about and is very knowledgeable about the sport. "
"There is no other Coach in the NCAA that will go to the lengths that Bell does for his athletes. At the same time he leaves it open to the athlete to make what they wish of their collegiate careers without penalizing someone for their lack of ambition. He is reliable and dedicated beyond what you could ask of a college coach. "
"Extremely knowledgeable. Will make you a better player. One of the best college soccer coaches in the country. He's tough and wants to make you better. "
"Not very team based. He only focuses on select players while the others watch. He does not help develop players on or off the field, if the team loses he blames those who do not play. He is not motivating or a caring coach. If you come from a specific background or can contribute to the teams funding he will show an interest. "
"One of the most manipulative human beings. He is not direct nor is he supportive. I have seen him verbally abuse multiple players - not the normal 'tough coach' stuff either - he directly causes drama between players. His volleyball knowledge is also very questionable - one off season, he got his drills from a high school club's youtube page. "
"Coach Webber is able to command the respect and full attention of his athletes. Two weaknesses that I noticed: 1) he does not always communicate on the water and during erg workouts when athletes make technique errors. 2) He overemphasizes long-distance workouts and crews end up falling short during the spring on power and and sprint racing skill."
"If Paul wants you to succeed (aka he invested a scholarship on you), then he will see to your success. Otherwise you will have to "treat every practice like a game" and most likely still ride the pine. He was very dishonest regarding his his intentions of giving me ice time despite backing from my teammates to give me a shot."
"I have a very strong relationship with my coach. He has been there for me through some very tough times in both my rowing career and personal life. I always tell people that rowing is such a difficult sport, your coach can make or break your experience. In the case of Coach Weber he has gone above and beyond to make my rowing experience what it is."
"He is very passionate about the sport but definitely picks favorites. If you are not a hurdler or xc runner, this school may not be a great fit. It was also upsetting how little emphasis he puts on school and your education-as long as you run well, Hegland does not care about your academic performance whatsoever."
"Leonid Yelin was a great coach. He is very tough and knows what he wants from his players. He is 100% dedicated and is always focused on getting his team better.

Outside of the court, he is one of the nicest guys I know. He cares for his players so much, that we all can easily say he is our second dad. He will never let anything happen to his player and will always help them. He loves to keep in touch and connection outside od the volleyball is very improtant to him as well."
"Coach Desko mostly works with the offense and has very little involvement with the defense. Furthermore, practices aren't even run by Coach Desko at all - they are moreso handled by assistant coaches Kevin Donahue and Lelan Rogers. Coach Rogers is the head defensive coach while Donahue is the head offensive and face-off coach. Roy Simmons is the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and Steve Scaramuzzino is a volunteer but also extremely kind. Coach Scarmo (as we call him) works primarily with the offense as well. The fitness trainers are amazing and ultimately it is a terrific program to play for. Coach Desko however does run the sidelines during games and can get pretty angry during practices."
"An incredible man. Builds on his prior years and learns. He sees each athlete as a person and goes above and beyond to make them feel seen. He will always have time for you if you have a problem even if it’s not related to rowing. He could be most honest and harsh sometimes with his coaching. He does make a fantastic training plan that will work you hard though. He is able to get the best out of everyone. Takes culture extremely seriously in a good way and is always looking for ways and wanting to receive feedback on how we can cultivate and even better program and team. He is the only person I would want running this program and is the most incredible coach I have worked with. I am beyond pleased that I got to come to Syracuse and work as an athlete under him. "
"Dave is all around a great coach, mentor, and leader. He knows about rowing more than anyone else and uses such knowledge to put together the fastest crews in the states. He keeps his athletes accountable and helps them in struggles (both academic and personal). Would highly recommend as a coach."
