"Melissa was fantastic to work with! She was only with the team as a volunteer but still put in 40+ hours a week between practice and traveling with the team, on top of a full time job. She cared DEEPLY about the success of her athletes both on and off the piste, and never once let us down. Her feedback was always direct and applicable. Unwaveringly positive at all times. She had a way about her that just made you want to do your best, and she never asked for more or less than that. When you go to a high performance university, this is exactly the kind of coach you want. She never forced her style or way of fencing onto the squad, she worked with them to see what they did, and then adapted her coaching style to match the individual. I wish every coach I had was like her."
"Coach Kelsey is an extremely disrespectful coach. If you are not deemed ‘worthy’ in her eyes of being in the 2v8, then she couldn’t care less about you. Extremely two-faced coach that pretends to have athlete’s best interest in mind, but actually makes the team’s chemistry go down incredibly and makes them feel not good enough no matter what. Definitely would not recommend to any rower to have as a coach. "
"Rebecca has been leading the program for 10+ years, and her effect on the program clearly shows in declining race results over the years. While labeled the head coach on paper, there is a history of an assistant or secondary coach who takes on more of the role of 'head coach' to run the team's training and general expectations. The program changes drastically each year based on the constant rotation of assistant coaches. If you are not in the top boat, do not count on her honesty and belief in you as an athlete. It is well known on the team that the majority of athletes are not respected or treated well. You will hear words and have promises made in one-on-one meetings, but the actions taken will be different. Temple itself provides great resources and an amazing experience as a student-athlete in general . However, if you are being recruited to a rowing team under Rebecca's lead I would advise taking caution in making that decision. "
