"As a team member and I don’t want to give myself away but this new coach is similar to the old one. I can attest to o e of our best player is being used as a water break. A free seconds here and there.. she is more skilled and the tallest in that position and it makes up think this. I truly believe the coach is making an example out of her for speaking up as a role model for screaming at us during practice like crazy. Unfortunately, we don’t want the same treatment. That’s why I’m leaving a rating anonymously. I don’t want to feel like she’s feeling. Suppose to be a better year with better treatment but it’s turning out the same. The coach says he wants feedback but he really doesn’t and we’re finding this out."
"This coach is now at UCSC women’s volleyball. He arrived positive and motivational however he’s really the opposite of what he said, write and portray. He’s prideful stubborn and ask for feedback but doesn’t really want it. He takes offense to it and will punish you by ignoring you. He seems to hold grudges. He says Seen, Safe and Secure but that’s not what he’s practicing right now. One of the players, a very skilled player who’s been on the team already is getting the treatment. He’s testing her like she doesn’t exist ever since she gave feedback on his SCREAMING during practice. He hates her now!!!. it’s suppose to be a new start for the team. A different style of coaching with a different type of attitude a better one. But he’s just a continuation of the last coach. We haven’t figured out if he s listening to former players or former coaches but we do know that he hasn’t got to know us well enough to how his favorites. We hope the director checks in with us every now and again. We I’ll see if he means what he says. So far not so good when it comes to respecting everyone of us on the team!!!!"
"Although I did not connect with Shayla on a deeper level like some of the other athletes, she really did help bring out the best in me and has made my athletic college experience very fulfilling"
"Shayla creates a personal relationship with you. She is understanding and knows that academics come before athletics. She is very flexible with injuries and always supports you no matter what. If you are recruited by her, she has faith in you."
"Shayla's admitted that she greatly fears speaking in front of large groups, and it shows in front of our team. In my years at Cal, however, she has made steps to get past her fear by volunteering to speak at athletics department events and her composure in front of the team has improved as a result "

"My visit to UCSB was fine. The team seemed like they don't really get along and it was quite noticeable. The campus was ok. The beach was the only nice part. It was cold though. "
"University of California at Santa Barbara's campus was interesting. Even though the campus is next to the beach, it's old, not renovated, and lacks certain things for the athletic facility. It's a good school but not for athletics. "
