"Brown should have hired Catamount coach Rob Dow when he was available and interviewing. This guy they hired...Wildman, wiseman, whatever his name is, is an idiot.
"
"Not fit to coach young men. Lacks foundational leadership skills at basic levels and does not demonstrate role model characteristics for the young men under his care. He exhibits childish behaviors in his relationships ranging from the men under his care including temper tantrums, flailing of hands and arms throughout the game, lack of character in handling of referees and does not reflect well for the university. His coaching lacks effective decision making skills and lacks strategy leaving the team with increased questions regarding his ability to lead this team. "
"Toxic coach who demotivates, engenders self-doubt and leads players to underachieve athletically. Wileman also negatively influences players' performances, and they have collectively learned nothing from him entering season three at Brown University. The soccer team is extremely poorly coached, he is uncaring, unfair, and inhibits athletes' mental skills and coping. Many players have lost their passion for a sport they have been playing from a very young age. Wileman will be remembered by his payers for many years to come.... for all the wrong reasons. he has absolutely no business coaching and/or mentoring young student athletes at any level. "
"Wileman has now had 4 staff members (3 assistant coaches, 1 team manager) leave his program in just 2 years at Brown. There is a reason behind this, he is an extremely toxic coach who creates a divide between his staff and players. He uses prior experience at Kentucky to make his assistant coaches and players feel as though they are inferior to him. He is very stubborn and it is his way or the high way and if you are in disagreement you will not being seeing the field. He has predetermined opinions about many of his players, not giving those who have been performing well a chance. There have been many examples of him telling players that they are not good enough and benching them when they consistently out perform others in practice. Once you are on his bad side it is virtually impossible not matter how good you play to ever see the field. He likes to say he has completely turned the program around by redoing the locker room, social media, etc but in reality the results have only shown 1 Ivy League win in two years and no assistant coaches left at the end of the year. Many kids on the team have lost love for the sport due to his harsh comments and toxic behavior. He has got into many disagreements with kids and is not the role model a top school like Brown should have represent their program. He claims to be professional with his organization and tactics on and off the field but proceeds to yell at the players and referees (4 yellow cards this past season) the entire game making many in the crowd comment on this. He also comes up with an elaborate game plan for each team before the game but once the game starts everything goes out the window and he resorts to yelling at the players and kicking it long. Overall, he has taken a previously above average Brown team and ruined the team culture to gain very minimal success. The AD must take a look at this and realize that he is not the future of Brown Men’s Soccer and will drive away many kids and future staff down the line. "
"No goals in 270 minutes played, 1 win against Ivy league competition, approaching season three for Wileman, AD Calhoun take notice, this guy has recruited scrubs. He is hated across all of his players and staff. 4 yellow cards against him for dissent. He's unhinged, does not have the attributes Brown University aspires to. "
"I went to visit the University of Kentucky when I was done there for a cross country meet earlier in high school but I remember loving the campus dynamic and the location around it."
"Wileman has the classic Napoleonic Complex. He's resentful that he didn't succeed in his playing career and realizes he has nothing to fall back on.
He knows nothing about tactics, player matchups and has no clue in making any semblance of adjustments. Plain and simple, he's no more than a town U10 volunteer coach. "
"This guy's staff has been steadily leaving like he's got some communicable disease! Yet another has left, she couldn't tolerate him anymore. Wileman is so dumb and arrogant. The two absolute worst attributes of any human being. "
"Creates a horrible team culture between the players and causes a divide amongst the team. Has anger problems in addition to being very stubborn. He will never admit or take responsibility for his mistakes instead he flips everything onto the players. Treats players very differently with no sort consistency when it comes to discipline. Makes many players on the team feel like he doesn’t want them to be there and that they add zero value in his eyes. He tries to come across as honest although most times it is demotivating. Overall, a terrible coach who makes his players not want to play for him and creates a toxic environment. "
"Chase Wileman has a very high soccer IQ, has played professionally and has led Kentucky to multiple National Titles. He is kind and compassionate, a great recruiter and has an open door policy. Will also transformed Brown soccer to a legitimate National contender in a very short time.
"
"Wileman is a first year coach at Brown University after a decade of being an assistant. He is abusive, mentally unstable, has created a dysfunctional team culture and kids are looking to transfer out as quickly as possible. The new Athletic Director has made a horrible mistake. Players thinking about being recruited...beware!! look elsewhere!! "
"Great person on and off the court. Will form a relationship with you that will last a lifetime. Great mentor and guide in tennis and life in general. Will motivate you and help you grow by taking you out of your comfort zone with specific drills and training."
"Hopefully, his last year with the program. Wileman is despised by his entire staff and players. They have no respect for this two faced, unqualified despot. Much more suited to be an equipment manager. You know, the guy who throws the players uniforms in the washing machine after all games. "
"Extremely disappointed in this coach. He doesn't have a consistent standard for all of his players. He has his favorites (or his preferred). They will be given all the opportunity in the world to make errors without consequences to playing time. However, if you are not on this list you will never see time on the field. His emotional IQ is so low. He can never take direct criticism about his style. Instead he will always deflect and redirect commentary and more than likely blame the players and tell them they haven't "bought into his program". It's always about him. He is self-centered and egotistical. His methods create divisiveness and resentment. He'll promise players the world when recruiting but they'll be hit over the head with the reality when they step on campus. Look at his record so far. He's only managed one winning season at Brown and that season wasn't with the players he's recruited. In 2023, he was the most carded coach in the Ivy league. No fair play award coming. His histrionics on the sidelines are comical. If you are a parent, strongly suggest you interview current and past players before making your selection or you'll be frustrated. Nothing you can do after you commit. Come to Brown for the education but do not think you will become a better player or person playing for this type of coach. "
