"Not sure where to begin but what a terrible person to lead a Womens tennis team. Paige will say anything you want to hear to get you to commit. She is manipulative and also made the girls lie during the recruiting trip to make it sound like it was a great place to go. It was all lies. I have seen her countlessly put players down, belittle them, tell them they were fat straight to their face in front of everyone, pick favourites and is just negative energy to be around. She even restricted what we could eat while we were away, for example no cream cheese on bagels or no mayo…like really??!!! I have seen her remove a foreigners scholarship because the person wasn’t as good as she thought they would be and literally left her high and dry. She made the environment so toxic. I have been around so many great motivational coaches who know how to get their players to work hard and still be respectful. She is so far from that. I have nothing good to say about her, the track record for transfers is also very high and let me assure you it has nothing to do with the school itself it’s all her. She is very difficult to deal with and not approachable at all. If you are looking at Miami go anywhere but there or you will highly regret it! "
"The standard is the standard and that is why he has had so much success. But he’s not genuine and only cares about you if you are a high level athlete. "
"Coach Vic was the best coach I had at the University of Miami. He cares about his athletes so much and wants them all to succeed not only at their sport but also in life. His motivational speeches at the end of every weights practice were always about how we are strong independent women who deserve respect and he always just tried to lift us up and encourage us. My rowing coaches at Miami were pretty terrible, but Vic was always so amazing and is the highlight of my collegiate athletic experience. I truly cannot emphasize how amazing he is and how caring and kind. Also his workouts got me in the best shape of my life, and taught me that the weight room is where I feel most comfortable and powerful. "
"Coach Swalley not only changed my life in the football world, but also the real world. He brings a different perspective to just about anything but it is not his way or the highway. He is open to learning and understanding anything and everything. I don't think I have ever met a more socially aware person in my life. I feel like he can literally see everything. I do not say that in a negative way either. I see it as a positive because he was able to teach me lessons that I was not even aware I needed to learn outside of life. He gave me peace of mind everyday because even when I was worried about an issue on the field, I knew I could trust him to get my head back on straight. I did not get to finish my college career with him, but at my new school I used every lesson he taught me. Appreciate you Swalldog. YAH FEEL ME?"
"Amazing. Great coach knows college tennis inside out. Old school teaching style, says it exactly how it is. If you work hard and listen there is no problem. Very caring and treats you like family"
"I rowed for Dave Sanderson for one semester. During my time here my entire class of about 14 considered transferring. 5 quit after one semester and only 4 from my class ended up completing 4 years of rowing here. I have never been bullied so badly by girls in my life. I had brought this up to the coaches and they seemed a little concerned, but nothing ever was done about it. Before I came to the U bullying on the team was so bad that girls were kicked off. When I brought up how mean the girls were to a therapist on campus she was like oh yea, I've heard about the rowing girls.
I was a relatively new rower with a lot of potential. As a walk on with little to no experience I was putting up numbers that were better than girls there on huge scholarships. Because I weighed more than most I'd get ranked at the bottom each week since they classified EVERYTHING by weight. Once I was put in one of the lower boats and another coach told us we were in that boat because we were fat and out of shape (this was my first time ever on the water). One girl on our team developed an ED so bad that she lost 50ish pounds. She got most improved that year.
None of the coaches every had any positive feedback to give. I have always been athletic and one of the top performers on my team, but I was so depressed while being here that I was regressing in the weight room and in my athletic ability. Right after I transferred I had some of the best athletic performance of my life as far as weightlifting goes and I was in the gym half the amount of time.
I was forced to come to practice when recovering from strep throat AND when I had a UTI and yeast infection at the same time.
After I transferred the day after everyone came back from Christmas break they made the team do a really intense workout in the middle of the day in Miami heat. Two girls passed out and had to go to the hospital.
For how overworked we were, there were no results. 2022 is the first time in years that the rowing program has been decent.
I am so disappointed in this program and the coaching staff. It still brings me to tears to talk about 5ish years later. This is just a minor piece of what I experienced, but I could talk about how terrible my experience was on this team for hours. As long as Dave Sanderson is the coach, this program will not be good.
The athletic administration in general was overall pretty great. However, women's sports here are dramatically overlooked and are probably in violation of TITLE IX.
If Dave or any of the coaching staff was reading this I would say place a higher emphasis on having a team that feels safe and respected by their coaches and peers. Take the time to get to know what your athletes are going through. We are not just a number on your roster."
"She is great! She takes the time to sit down with each and every athlete to get to know them and see how she could best help them become the best athlete they can be. Coach can be VERY direct (almost blunt), but I'd prefer that to someone being fake to me! Just keep a line of communication and there will be no issues at all. "
"Best offensive line coach in the country hands down.
Out peoples and out coaches the competition with ease. Excellent recruiter and excellent at building relationships. "
"Most intense man ive ever met in my life every time we spoke it felt like i was going to war. In most cases even if it was a joke you felt like what he said was a fact and there was no disputing it....all in all cool guy"
"I feel extremely lucky to have had Sarah as my coach. She pushed us to be better, every single day. She expects a lot from her players, but nothing that she doesn't already expect from herself. Sarah is knowledgeable, competitive and honest with her players; I wouldn't have become the player or person I am today without her guidance and ability. "
"Sarah completely turned the program around by instilling a competitive drive and unmatched work ethic in the team from day one. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the game, but she also strives to build relationships with her players that transcend the soccer field. Sarah is an amazing coach! And an even better person! "
"Sarah is 100% invested in her players and GW. She knows the game and what it takes to be competitive and successful. Sarah's ability to balance being intense and fair sets her apart from many other D1 coaches. She's a genuine person and incredible mentor for her players, both on and off the field."
"Sarah turned our program around when she came. Took the time to get to know her players and found a way to connect them all. She is always willing to take time to talk to her players about things off the field and is a great role model on and off the field. Very knowledgeable and motivational and one of the best people I know. "
"Sarah is incredibly knowledgeable, clear, direct, and fair. She has completely changed the program with high standards and consistency. She practices what she preaches, knows who she is, and is a reliable, strong, good person who cares about her players. Great, great coach. "
"Sarah is a coach that is constantly striving to be the best coach she can be, watching video, planning sessions, getting to know her players - I have not known a coach to care that much about her players. She wants to play quality soccer and strives to move the ball, create good chances and keep possession. Her passion for the game is unmatched. "
"Paige will be the worst experience in your tennis career. She is not fair, relatable or genuine. She lies during the recruiting process, plays favorites, and will make your life a living hell. She will kill your love for the sport and dehumanize you whenever possible. If you take a look at the roster;16 girls have left in the last 8 years. There's a reason why; don't be fooled by her results, the problem is her, and her love for power and control, not the players."
