"Despite an outward charm and kindness, as a coach he sought out to tear down the team and turn players against each other. Additionally he made several extremely racist remarks and lacked any accountability for his actions. He was inappropriate with players that he deemed his favorites - drinking with them, not holding them to the same rules as other players and blatantly showing his favoritism (especially for players whose parents got him extra benefits). He was often disrespectful to his own staff as well in front of players. Overall, he was extremely inconsistent and emotionally abusive. "
"I worked my entire life to play division 1, and unfortunately this coach ruined the entire experience for me. This coach was extremely emotional and unprofessional. She would throw temper tantrums if you did not understand or properly facilitate the drill she explained. She took a team that was conference champions under previous leadership, and turned it into the worst record year over year in program history. This had nothing to do with talent and everything to do with the toxic environment she cultivated. This woman plays minds games and promotes attitude and drama over leadership. She repeatedly established dominance over other staff members through public displays of disrespect and hierarchy. Additionally, she will select a small group of individuals that are most similar to her, and anyone else with a different worldview or personality is left by the wayside. Truly does not care about her other staff or the bulk of her players. The UNCW Women’s Volleyball program deserved better. "

"Horrible experience. Half of the freshman girl class either quit or transferred. Doesn’t see you as a person, holds meetings yelling/speaking at you not with you. Culture of fear and depression on the women’s team. Only cares about the image of the team on social media. Has caused significant mental harm to many athletes. Athletic department doesn’t do anything bc the team wins. So focused on finding the next best thing and the teams social media presence he neglects the athletes that uprooted there lives, many not on scholarship and belittles them until they feel worthless. Please choose another program if you are currently being recruited. I love Wilmington as an area more than anything but I couldn’t ignore the toll this program and environment was taking on my mental health. "
"Didn't end up attending UNCW, but it was my favorite recruiting trip. Everyone on the team was super nice, and even had one of the hosts reach out to all the recruits after the trip to check in. Beautiful campus that is so close to an amazing beach. Pool is a little older, but gets the job done and is nice to swim in. Freshman year dorms are very nice- everyone gets their own room and has a shared bathroom and common room."
"I have a great relationship with Coach Neal. He has been a friend and mentor to me as a student athlete at Elon University. He is honest and motivational because he sees potential and wants every person to live up to it. He is cool and understanding, just wants honesty, effort, and investment from his players."
