"To be a coach, a person must be able to coach! A coach should have the ability and the personality to inspire each player based on his or her ability to perform certain tasks. A coach needs to build confidence within each player which allows enhanced performance and a feeling of reliability for the team. A coach should always be fair and approachable to all players. After all, they made the team, and the coach was the one who decided on the preferred players for his/her team. No matter how difficult it may be. A coach should always tell the truth and be objective in the instructions he/she gives. A coach is often seen as a mentor or “the good guy” and that should be the number one goal to a coach when dealing with young minds. A coach is not only making someone a better player, which requires dedication and effort from both coach and player, a coach has the opportunity to make someone a better person. Trying the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is not a good coaching strategy. Relying on one or two players to carry the entire team is a weak approach to coaching as it projects the lack of confidence the coach has in the rest of the players. It is a forty-minute game and when managed properly, the coach can manage the play time for the players he chooses to have on his team. A coach must be able to clearly identify strengths and weaknesses of each player and provide constructive criticism and workouts to achieve a better outcome. A player must know what he/she is doing right or wrong. Leaving a young mind to decipher what he/she needs to do to improve their play and meet the coach’s expectations without guidance is mental abuse/psychological at the very least. Having been a coach and a proud mentor to a number of young players, I do not believe this coach has what it takes to lead a successful team both on and off the court. Team discipline is not something you will find here. Having played the sport does not make you a coach! Lack of communication is obvious. Best of luck in the future. "
