I have serious concerns about Heidi Axtell's coaching style and the environment she creates for players on the SUNY Cortland women's soccer team. In my experience, her approach has come across as bullying rather than constructive leadership, and favoritism appears to be a significant concern.
A coach should hold every player to consistent standards, communicate respectfully, and create an environment where athletes feel valued and supported. When players perceive that certain individuals receive preferential treatment while others are treated differently, it can damage team morale, undermine trust, and negatively affect the overall college athletic experience.
College athletes deserve a coach who demonstrates fairness, accountability, professionalism, and respect. Winning games should never come at the expense of treating players fairly or fostering a healthy team culture. These concerns deserve to be taken seriously, and players should feel comfortable speaking up about their experiences without fear of negative consequences.
