Coming off a truly miserable and toxic experience at the USC Upstate women's soccer game last night where the new coach acted like a total clown I felt compelled as a proud alum to look back and remember what true leadership actually looks like in this program. Coach Sharif is and always will be the absolute gold standard. Where our current coach brings unwarranted arrogance and embarrassing foul mouthed sideline tantrums Sharif brought pure class fierce competitiveness and genuine respect. He knew how to win with dignity how to honor the blood sweat and tears of every former player who built this program and how to create a family rather than tear it down. He actively connected alumni with current players making sure we always felt welcome in the locker room and keeping that bond strong long after graduation. He even went above and beyond to help current players secure career opportunities and brought in vital donations to support the program. He celebrated our past instead of mocking how past teams played and he treated everyone with profound integrity. We miss you Coach and thank you for teaching us what it truly means to represent Upstate the right way.
