This is a warning to any players who are being recruited by or thinking about playing for this coach. She’s very self-centered and lets her personal grudges and feelings come before what’s best for the team. She never takes responsibility for anything, and whenever something goes wrong, it’s always someone else’s fault.
She’s a bully who singles out certain players for no reason. She tears them down and puts them in impossible situations where they have no chance to succeed, and when they fall short, she uses it as an excuse to go after them even harder. I was never one of the players she targeted, but I saw it happen firsthand to several of my teammates. When one of them opened up to her about struggling with her mental health, her response was, “Quit or go get therapy.” She has no compassion at all, and as a player you’re always walking on eggshells when it comes to injuries or being sick.
Whenever people bring up the team culture and how no one gets along, her answer is that you don’t have to like each other to play together. But that’s exactly why things are the way they are. Players yell at each other constantly, nobody’s on the same page, and you can see it in the results.
At the end of every season she asks for feedback on the team, the season, and what she could do better. But when you’re actually honest with her, she makes you feel like you’re the only one who sees any problems. Instead of listening, she turns it around on you, goes after your character, and tells you that you’re the problem.
I’ve had tough coaches before who pushed me to my limit, and I’m grateful for them. But there’s a line between pushing your players to be better and emotionally abusing them. If a friend of mine was thinking about playing for her, I’d tell her to run as far away as possible.
