Reviews dated back to his LSU years show a consistent negative pattern which has continued at Rice in spite of repeated student athletes complaints to administration. Recruits looking at this program and coach should look to get a genuine and honest opinion not an edited version from a hand picked student athlete host."

"Reviews of Brian Lee are consistent for emotional/psychological abuse of players, negative team culture, fostering division between players and team, and blatant favoritism shown to specific players. It is very unfortunate Rice University Administration has repeatedly ignored the numerous Student-Athletes' concerns and complaints regarding his mistreatment and emotional abuse of players. Any recruit considering this program should proceed with caution and get honest feedback from alumni or current players versus rely on the scripted sales pitch of the host player and coaching staff."

""Leads" by fear and threats. So many players are beat down and afraid to talk to him or any of the staff, let alone compliance avenues. Starters are not immune to his verbal tirades and degradation, but fear speaking up because they know their playing time will be eliminated. Hard for many of the players to watch how he treats specific players, but again fear speaking up. Worry about the mental stability of the players, definitely worried about how they internalize his words and actions and what consequences they have down the line. With tuition at $97,000 girls can't afford to quit and still attend Rice. Rice has an option to extend Brian's contract at the end of the season, I hope they look at the history he has and opt to go find one of the many young, talented, and excited coaches out there."

"Brian Lee should not be coach ANY woman's sports ! He has several complaints via the NCAA compliance division as well as ethics complaints regarding inappropriate and mistreatment of his players ! If your considering Rice for woman's soccer , please reconsider and reach out to one of the players and see what they tell you about him ! He is very good friends with the athletic director at Rice which is probably the only reason besides the fact that the Dean also had his daughter play for him. He's been investigated by the NCAA at Rice as well as at LSU. With today's mental illness at an all time high and the stress of academics at rice. I fear the mental games this man plays could end bad. Please do your research before committing to play for Brian Lee "

"It's a shame Rice University has kept Brian Lee as their Women's Soccer coach for 8 years. He talks about team unity but then divides the team by starters and bench warmers. His starters are always his 'favorites' even when there are better players sitting on the bench. He will tell a player how to improve and when they achieve that goal, he creates another problem so the girls are given another goal - never to see the field no matter how much they improve. He says he's about team building but then before a game he will tell them they are going to lose. Way to build confidence Coach. The players won't complain about him to the Administrations any more for fear of lose of playing time. There have been complaints from players about his psychological abuse but Rice has chosen to ignore the problem. Rice's Womens Soccer Team has succeeded because of the integrity and strength of the players not because of their coach. Maybe in spite of him and his assistance coaches. The assistance coaches ignore/support(?) his actions."

"Made up a bunch of lies to me and other teammates about money/playing time. Was never straight up and never stayed true to his word. "Is a good coach as long as things go well for the team performance and standing. As things becomes difficult in the standings, will shout at people on and off the field during game and get pretty intense without being cosntructive. One could say that he is passionate about the game but really he is passionate about getting results only and doesn't care if we play good soccer or not. The team did not have captains at the beginning of the season and mid seasons captains were chosen without the whole team being consulted. If there are team issues only part of the team will take a decision that may or not affect everyone on the team. Is pretty good at motivational speeches. Makes it known that he has favorites. The good thing and most forward thinking he has in my opinion is that he does not believe intense fitness training (like lifting heavy and heavy conditionning) makes you the best player and tends to include a ball in everything that his fitness related beside the gym. Will tell you that school is important as long as it doesn't interfere with soccer development. So he doesn't support ambitious majors."
