"Clearly has favorites based on personal relationships he has with parents. Creates an overall very poor team culture, despite claiming a positive team culture exists. Divides the team between starters and the rest of the team. Not very direct or honest with his players. "
"I was familiar with Spaulding throughout our dons high school baseball career. He is a stand up guy and is extremely hard working. Rice is blessed to have him."
"Knowledgeable coach who has an incredible history of finding and developing talent at the university. Has been known to have issues with pitchers and their health however."
"Efe is not anly a great player but he’s a great person. Being a college tennis coach and dealing with so many individual minded personalities like tennis players is a difficult job but he handles players with a lot of understanding and finesse. You can trust Efe and if you’re looking for a coach that will be fair but will have your back, Efe is that coach. "
"She is overall a very dedicated coach. She cares about her players and has a very competitive spirit. However, she sometimes doesn’t make herself accessible to her team. She distances herself from technical coaching takes a backseat during practice. "
"Jess is the backbone of Rice Swimming. She does a lot of behind the scene work for the team while also running multiple sets a week. She works well with the head coach Seth and helps create a positive team environment."
"Sarah is a great athletic trainer! She is tough on making you do rehab which is definitely needed; all my injuries have improved under her. She has a great deal of knowledge about swimming-related injuries and is also a great people person. "
"Seth has great insight on how to coach college athletes. He prioritizes your growth and health rather than just focusing on times. Highly recommend. "
"I know she won trainer of the year however its not equal care per athlete. she spend more attention on some athletes over other. She was fast respond times from the athlete but it not the same her her response. She buggs athletes and is extremely invasive about life at times"
"Sarah is the best athletic trainer that Rice Swimming has had in a long time. She is very knowledgable about swim-related injuries and is extremely caring, friendly, and supportive. "
"She only works with people who have diagnose issues. She does not give the same treatment to all and you can tell. When you want to come in for treatment and know she is more responsive to certain individuals."
"I am currently seeing Jeff for injury rehab and it has been great. He is an extremely dedicated athletic trainer and is very knowledgeable in injury rehab. It has been a great experience and I am excited to see how he helps me through the rest of my recovery"
"I am not on the men's team so I don't train with him, but in my years here at rice on the women's team, I have had a lot of interactions with him. He is always willing to answer any questions I have... even though I am not technically one of his athletes, which is awesome. He has taught me a lot about the steeplechase. From what I hear from the men's team, he is very organized and a great coach."
"Coach Smith really helps get things done/organized on the team. She is a genuine person who is easy to get along with and will do whatever she can to help you. I don't train with her that much as a distance runner but so far it appears she has had a really positive impact on the sprinters that she trains. "
"Cheyanne is dedicated to her athletes. She wants the best for you and will do whatever she can to keep you healthy. She is also extremely fun to be around and creates a great atmosphere. "
"Jim is an exceptional coach. He cares about the athlete beyond just their athletic performance. He cares that we are happy, do well in school, as well as do well on the track. He cares deeply about the sport of running and is extremely knowledgable about it. He has so many crazy/fun/meaningful stories too."
"Coach Bevan is an outstanding coach. He understands the academic rigor of students at Rice, but also pushes you to be the best athlete you can be. He is extremely understanding and easy to talk to, and overall is an amazing coach. "
"Coach Elizabeth is an amazing coach. She truly cares about the team and tries to be always there for everyone. She is a great leader and leads the team by example. Coach Elizabeth cares about both tennis and academics (which I think is important when you attend a school like Rice)."
"He is a good person. Colby is a really optimistic person. It is easy to talk to him.
As a coach, he is sometimes too passive. He doesn't always share his feedback and relies a lot on the head coach. He could be a way better coach if he would step up and share his point of view/feedback. "
"Coach Janish really cares about the players and cares about your success as a team. If you ever need anything he's very approachable and will help with anything. "
"The weight room could use remodeling to make it cooler and more modern. The nutrition center is improving but it could have more variety of foods, like providing breakfast, lunch and dinner options instead of just snacks. "
"Jon is a phenomenal coach. He is knowledgeable about the sport and he cares about each and every one of his athletes. Coach Warren cares deeply about team culture and exhibits that every single day."
"Sarah is very knowledgeable. In particular, she is very aware of injury management and prevention in the specific context of swimming. Having her support has made being a student-athlete easier!"
"E is the best coach I have ever had. She is extremely open to communicating with players and actively requests feedback about practice. She always creates time for her players and also understands that there is a balance between academics and Athletics. She never yells or puts anyone down. She helps create an amazing team environment and I am never scared to go to her with anything. When I put myself down at practice or anytime, E always brings me back up. She treats everyone equally (and this treatment is amazing). "
"Colby is amazing!!!!!!! He creates a great team environment by being open, positive, and overall very understanding. He never yells or brings anyone down. He is encouraging and overall just a joy. Best assistant coach ever"
"Jim Bevan is a great coach and has helped me so much since I joined the track team at Rice as I came in with many injuries but he helped me remain positive and cared for me when I was feeling low. "
"He is very caring and involved. He values academics a lot. He helps us build skills outside of just our sport. He is very knowledgeable about swimming"
"Coolest Coach i've had in my time playing college football. Easy to get along with and he represents somebody who you would want to be when you get older. "
"Cheyenne is a great person and fantastic trainer. She has kept our athletes from so many potential injuries and rehabilitation from the ones we do get."
"A good strength coach who cares about his players. Good at executing the team's strength and conditioning program. Can fall into bad habits created by a negative culture."
"This coach is stuck in his ways and not open to feedback or change from his staff or players. Very disorganized and often makes last second adjustments to the schedule. Appears to be a high character coach initially but consistently makes very low character decisions. Does not know how to utilize his talent and plays favorites when deciding who gets playing time."
"As a football player under bloomgren, I have noticed his commitment for his players not only on the field but as well as their success after college."
"The athletic facilities are alright. I think we are in need of an update because things are falling apart. It feels a little spooky in there and can be creepy at night. However, it gets the job done and has everything that is necessary. "
"I have had good and less good experiences with Brian Lee. He is very easy to get along with and is a social being. He is not always the best communicator and how he treats you depends on how you perform a lot of the time. I don't think he always creates the best culture "
"From what I’ve seen almost everyone can agree that coach bloomgren is very stubborn with his gameplan. If something is not working he rarely makes adjustments or listens to the players.I also have never gotten close or had a conversation with coach and never seems like he really wants me or cares if I was on the team. The communication is also horrible although he said he would work on it a couple weeks ago, there are still last second “changes in the schedule” or events being scheduled by surprise. He also doesn’t use the players h has or have faith in them as he sticks to his old run the ball mentality no matter how many defenders are in the box which of course leads to a ton of losses. Overall pretty poor experience with coach bloom but hopefully he can find success next year or more likely at his next job. The teams culture is also very poor very little of us trust that our coach believes in us or will make the right decisions and as a result we just expect to lose."
"Coach is a cool guy, maYbe get a bad rep but if you come in ready to work, he will appreciate it and he does care for the players with the resources given"
"Practice at Westwood Golf Club. Nice club, good short game area, and have full access to club every day of week. On-campus we have a private lounge area, locker room, and chipping and hitting room with Trackman."
"Rice places a large emphasis on academics, and Seth upholds the belief that you are a student before an athlete. He has very high expectations both in and out of the pool, and wants to see everyone grow and thrive to be the best person you can be by the time you graduate. "
"Coach Ustundag has been very welcoming and caring throughout my time at Rice. He is a very good coach but more importantly he is avery good person. He seems like he understands that what he does is bigger than just tennis and he truly cares for all of his players as individuals."
"Locker Room is about to be renovated but it is still pretty good infrastructure nonetheless right now. Wish the team had its own practice and "game day" field and did not have to share."
"Is a good coach as long as things go well for the team performance and standing. As things becomes difficult in the standings, will shout at people on and off the field during game and get pretty intense without being cosntructive. One could say that he is passionate about the game but really he is passionate about getting results only and doesn't care if we play good soccer or not. The team did not have captains at the beginning of the season and mid seasons captains were chosen without the whole team being consulted. If there are team issues only part of the team will take a decision that may or not affect everyone on the team. Is pretty good at motivational speeches. Makes it known that he has favorites. The good thing and most forward thinking he has in my opinion is that he does not believe intense fitness training (like lifting heavy and heavy conditionning) makes you the best player and tends to include a ball in everything that his fitness related beside the gym. Will tell you that school is important as long as it doesn't interfere with soccer development. So he doesn't support ambitious majors."
"Jon is a great coach, he focuses on his athletes well-being and helps them achieve their goals. He focuses strongly on athletics and academics and making his athletes to become good people as well. "
"Really nice guy and will take good care of you. Not hugely motivational or inspiring but nice guy if you’ve got anything to talk about. Doesn’t make you feel pressured so you can enjoy your golf and do the best you can."
"Made up a bunch of lies to me and other teammates about money/playing time. Was never straight up and never stayed true to his word. I played a significant amount of minutes, so this review is coming from a unbiased player. His tactics were awful, his game plans were never that great. He was basically fired from lsu."
"Great guy. If you apply yourself and work hard he will like you. Easy to talk to and will respect what you have to say if you do the right things and respect him too. Training isn't amazing but you get out what you put in."
"Makes you feel like a joke if you try to bring up topics that are serious and want to discuss. Has no respect for players or their lives. Has ruined soccer for me and almost every one I talk to on the team. He's the worst coach I've had in my whole soccer career."
"Great person off the field. Stresses the importance of a good team structure, yet the team was divided between starters and non starters. Don't believe everything he says because it all depends on how you play throughout the season. Has clear favorites and makes it known "
"Has little to no soccer knowledge. His lack of knowledge and outdated tactics leaves LSU at a huge disadvantage. He divides the team and has clear favorites. If you aren't a favorite, get used to being disrespected, humiliated and being left out. Threatens us often, has empty promises and gives up on his players. Takes the love out of the game. "
"Very poor knowledge of the game. If you are not of use to him on the field, he will not give you the time of day. Large divide between starters and non-starters. Has a habit of making empty promises, especially to new recruits. "
"Great recruiter, but once you get in the program it's totally different. Doesn't know how to motivate players, and encouragement is minimum. Also creates large divide in the team between starters and practice players. If you aren't a top recruit, you don't have a fair chance. "
"He does want the best for his players and and is honest and direct in his coaching, but isn't the most knowledgeable about soccer and isn't the greatest at getting to know ALL his players "
"Good person off the field, but not the most upfront/direct person when it comes to soccer aspects. Questionable choices tactically soccer-wise at times as well. "
