"Terrible person all around. Unless you identify as gay/lesbian then your chances of being treated fairly on the team is out the window. Will favor those individuals and those individuals only. Never should have been a coach …. Considering she never rowed and can’t communicate with any of the athletes. "

"If you’re looking for a coach that doesn’t know what they’re talking about, come to Kansas Rowing. Carrie is a horrible role model to be leading a group of athletes as she is completely out of shape and has had multiple health scares at practice. She has rowed for only one semester in college, which goes to show how little knowledge she has about the sport. She does not know half of the girls names on the team and ignores the lower groups of girls on the team. She will lie to your face and gaslight you into thinking that you’re wrong. Do not waste your time by being on the Kansas rowing team. "

"This is a coach who has no business leading a division one program. Coach Carrie is a liar who doesn’t not value her athletes or their success. Coach Carrie only rowed for a semester in college (she will gladly look you in the eye and tell you otherwise), yet she will shame her athletes for not being strong enough for her standards. It is very hard to be motivated by a coach who has little knowledge about the sport and is in poor physical condition her self. So bad she had a heart attack scare during practice. Some people are better off eating their McDonald’s and not coaching. "

"Coach Carrie continues to show up for us players and the program. She cares deeply about our experience and success and for that I couldn't be more thankful. I can see the work that she puts in for all of us everyday. My time at KU wouldn't be the same without her and this team."

"Although Carrie tries her best, she has favorites and doesn’t create a fair way to climb the rankings within the team. She also avoids conflict at all costs, so if you confront her about an issue, don’t expect it to be solved, expect run-around half-responses and excuses. She is generally understanding and welcoming to some issues athletes have (although is she doesn’t like you, she isn’t as understanding). She preaches a lot about team culture but does nothing to actually build this said culture. When it comes to her coaching style, she’s very hands off. Don’t expect a lot of technique coaching from her. She’s a nice enough person, but would probably not recommend this program to a friend. "

"Coach Carrie’s door is always open. She is there for every single rower on her team. She makes sure to touch base with everyone, even the novice newcomers that she doesn’t particularly deal with at the beginning of fall. Excellent coach. She will provide the most racing opportunities possible to her athletes. She single handedly moved and rescheduled an entire regatta in under 48 hours. Excellent under pressure, communicates to us the second she knows something. It’s a privilege to know her, and an even greater privilege to be her athlete."

"I will forever be grateful for my experience with Kansas Rowing and that is due in huge part to Coach Carrie. Coach Carrie truly cares about each one of her athletes as individuals and takes the time to get to know you. Coach Carrie has been there for me many times throughout my rowing career as I struggled with what was happening not only within my athletic career but any issues I was experiencing outside of rowing. She is truly organized and makes sure the program runs smoothly and efficiently. She does so much for our team behind the scenes that the athletes don't see and is truly under appreciated. She works nonstop to further our program and truly wants the best for the program not just because it is her job, but because she loves this school and loves the athletes. I can't even begin to count the amount of times that Coach Carrie said to me, "I want it so bad for you." She wants us to win and do well because she cares and loves each one of us. One of the best coaches and people I have ever had the honor of knowing. "

"My developed bond with Coach Carrie as a person is the reason why I continued rowing. She helped me set up mental health resources and provided support during very difficult times when my battles went beyond rowing and athletics. She made rowing a home for me and I will forever be grateful to her. If you are looking for an understanding coach who has the ability to see you beyond your erg scores, she’s the coach for you."

"Coach Carrie is very organized and good at managing a team logistically. However she is not the most knowledgeable or experienced. She often makes decisions on boating lineups that do not make sense and it seems like she picks some athletes over others not because they are faster, but because she likes them more. Her lack of athleticism and personal achievement makes it difficult to be motivated by her. "

"Embarrassed, I am embarrassed to be a part of this program. Our head coach has less experience than every athlete on the team. Carrie Cook-Callen gave up. I don't think there is any other word than that. She does not know how to coach and I truly think it shows in all of our results as a program. She is getting paid to sit, be silent during practice and eat McDonalds. "

"Does not have enough experience in the sport to be a head coach. Is good at the organizational and logistical side of college athletics but does not add value to the program in terms of knowing how to coach athletes to get better at the sport. Has a hard time communicating effectively with athletes, and because of her lack of athleticism, it can sometimes be hard to take her seriously and respect what she is saying. Is a good person but not a good coach and would be better fit being involved elsewhere in college athletics. I have had some conversations that are negative and left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I am not the only one. Some coaching decisions made are confusing to understand and often no explanation is given as to why that decision was made. "
