"His knowledge and strategy behind the game is impressive. He takes into consideration the opponent and scout report to best match-up depending on personnel available. He is a bit vague when it comes to motivating players due to the fact that his approach is wishy-washy, not upfront with his personal motive, self-righteous, and testy towards players. He demands a culture of competitive athletes through and through. He is a respectable coach, but not as personable and caring as others."

"One of the worst coaches I have ever encountered. This is not just my opinion, but the majority of the team feels the same. He has definitely ruined the "team" feeling that has been instilled in us for many years. He gossips and tries to pin players against each other, by trying to make us rat on other players. Dave DiIanni is a very immature coach and I cannot wait to never see his face again."

"Great knowledge of the game and shows during practices with the sessions he runs. However, he is not a great communicater with the team so a little hard to know what is going on at times. Its best to be super fit coming into the program or he makes comments along the lines of no playing time and being useless to the team and program. If you think you are fit, think again. At his time at the University of Iowa, two B1G Ten seasons and 3 spring seasons, a total of 11 players have torn their ACLs."
