"Longwood athletics showed how much they do not care about their women’s lacrosse program when they didn’t conduct a national search after Ferguson left, and just hired Hicks. If they were in a hurry to fill the position, he should have been an interim hire.
He would probably make a decent club coach, but he doesn’t understand the game well enough to be coaching D1. They did the same drills day after day, barely worked on shooting, which was obvious in how few goals we scored, and sabotaged a program that was on the upswing. Longwood ADs also did not listen to concerns of almost every player and parent. 8 or 9 players left or entered the portal, 7 graduated and at least 2 incoming players decommitted. I’ve also seen D2 and D3 schools with much nicer facilities. "
"Very nice man but does not understand the women’s game or the pace of D1. Very unorganized, constantly changing plans last minute, and not communicating well with the team about expectations. Did not build any team culture at all. Allowed one player to accumulate 29 cards in one season. That’s a lot of man down/goals scored because one person doesn’t have self control! There was no discipline. "
"I’ve never been so disappointed to see a coach be a division one lacrosse coach. Not only does his lacrosse IQ lack in every category possible, but he is the worst leader for anyone dedicated to a sport. He managed to turn a team that made the top four in the conference to a team that barely won one game within 9 months of coaching them. He allowed a senior captain to attack another senior physically only resulting in half a game suspension. He has managed to win 7 total games in 5 years as a head coach, he allows the team to disrespect him and the captains to the point the team couldn’t do anything but laugh after, and he did nothing to stop a fan from tearing down his own playing verbally for more then a quarter of the game. The only reason the fan was removed from the field is because parents started chanting to get him out. It is even more embarrassing for Longwood University because all of these issues have been addressed by letters, interviews, and meetings with the athletic director at the conclusion of the season and they did absolutely nothing! The only reason some of these girls are returning is because they academically are stuck, many still considering quitting and just finishing their academic year. It’s heart shattering to see so many young women loose their love, passion, and drive for a sport they worked for since they were ten just for a small man to rip it away from them at the end of their career. If you are committed or considering committing to a team he is coaching for I suggest u take any other option at your finger tips. #saveyourself"
