"Phil is a great coach that takes a genuine interest in your son and his development off and on the field.
My son has shared more than one story how Phil has mentored players honestly in life as well as lax.
His ability as a coach can be seen in the offensive statistics, and how evenly the scoring is distributed.
This is a coaching staff that you want shaping the man your son is becoming. And as any parent knows, thru adversity comes some of our best achievements even even it is hard watching your son stumble. "
"Phil Havira a great lacrosse coach but he is more than that for Centre lacrosse. Phil is there for the players, when the going gets tough he is who you go to for help. He can be hard on players but is to push them to get better. One of the "tags" is players coach and I think this perfectly fits Phil. He wants to be close with the players, get to know them on a deeper level and look out for their best interests. During my time at Centre we had our fair share of back and forth in the film room or on the sideline but no matter what, he always took into consideration what I was saying. He made me feel heard and it was more of a conversation than an argument. Phil is the definition of a players coach and he is the glue that keeps everything together both on and off the field. My college experience would not have been half as good without Phil there by my side."
"As a parent, you hope to guide your children in the right direction and set the in a path for success. I have enormous regrets sending my son to play lacrosse at Centre. He had plenty of schools that really wanted him but instead he chose Centre with my blessing. He waisted what could have been a fun college lacrosse career because I didn’t see through the sales pitch of Phil and Grant. I deeply regret not paying closer attention. "
"Phil isn’t professional and he tries to be buddies with some players. There is a hierarchy with Phil. Talent is a part of it, but so is where you played high school, public or private school, and MOST importantly if you are one of his guys. You are going to get almost no individual instruction from Coach Phil and if you intend to get better, it will be on your own. Everyone on campus who cares about lax talks about the favoritism, especially with Phil, but nothing changes."
"I attended Centre as a lacrosse player. The school is fine but I could have chosen lots of good schools. The deciding factor for Centre was lacrosse. I had no idea that I would be lied to in nearly every meeting with coaches, that coach Phil would be desperately trying to relive his college life and would talk about players openly to the players that he was trying to befriend. He and Coach Z will recruit you knowing that they don’t intend to play you. They will lie throughout the off season about where you are in the depth chart and then when the season comes around, you ride the bench. If you aren’t getting some D1 attention, do not come here. I promise you will regret it. Unless you want to hear from other players all of the bad things Coach Phil said about you, this isn’t your place. You won’t be developed at all, you will be lied to constantly, and you will come away hating the sport that you once loved. I quit playing because if Phil and Coach Z. I really hate that they turned something I loved into something that I walked away from. "
