"Very weird guy to be honest. He talked way too openly about his dating life. He swears he looks like Vince Vaughn so we ONLY watched Vince Vaughn movies on our bus trips. If you are currently being recruited by him, be very weary of what he says. He has lied in the past about why his players transfer or only stay a few years."
"Phil would be a great salesman but he unfortunately falls short as a basketball coach. I remember him making a comment about how he rather coach baseball because he grew up playing it. He would weirdly get very angry at very random moments. We had a running joke that it must be, "that time of the month." Overall, terrible experience."
"Phil is a manipulative person. When I asked him why so many of his players transferred he lied and said it was because he was going to leave and they didn't want to play for UMBC if he wasn't there. He only runs the Princeton offense and never allowed us to fast break. His assistant coach, Carley, is similar and difficult to talk to. "
"Throughout the whole recruiting process, Phil Stern was dishonest and manipulative in what he chose to tell recruits. Including the amount of transfers he's had in the past three years. I believe Phil Stern does not care about his players and is only considered how with how he individually looks to the public. Overall the experience at UMBC was very eye-opening."
"He is manipulative and it is impossible to talk to him. His staff is even nervous to tell him what they really feel about things because he will shut them down. Not many people return after one season, and if they do have a hard time with him. He is good at drawing up plays at the end of shot clocks or game situations. Runs plays every time down the floor, there is no flow to his game, easy to scout because he wants to control every second of the game."
