"He is a old-school kind of coach. However, he needs to do better with adapting to what creates boot speed in the 2020 era. He is stuck in the old ways on how teams used to make speed pre-Covid, which is why BU has not been successful. Rowing aside he is a great person to know. Just not the most talkative if you try to talk to him outside of Rowing. Also, if you do not hit the team standard, you will be cut."
"Coach Kelly has had a positive impact on the Delaware women’s soccer team within her first few months in the role. A direct communicator who cares about players as people and athletes."
"The faculties here were nice. I have seen better but I have also seen worse. I would say they are good to get a good workout in and prepare for any events coming up with the team. "
"I liked touring the school and seeing the how the coach was with the players. I personally didn’t think I would fit in the system here but I think other people would fit right in! This is a great school but it just wasn’t right for me. "
"I am 100% grateful to have been a part of and contribute to the team culture that Bill had established at BU. Bill was always accomodating with class schedules, advocating for a your education while promoting success in the pool. I attribute a lot of my post-life success to my 4 years at BUSD"
"Very passive-doesn’t make changes if things aren’t working sometimes and won’t come to you about something he doesn’t like until the end of the year "
"Well-intended, positive personality, knows a lot about the game, but mentally just kind of all over the place, unorganized, makes careless mistakes. Overall good though, certainly preps players to get better individually, i think he’s much better as a 1-on-1 coach than heading an entire team."
"Winning is Coach Polley's number 1 priority. He is not the best with words, but he truly cares about his players. He has their backs when they get in trouble and will help them in times of need. He pushes the team to work harder every day and is never satisfied with mediocracy. If you work hard and add value to the team, he will serve you well. "
"Very encouraging coach. Loves Boston and Bu with all her heart! Wants players to succeed as true student athletes by doing well in the classrooms and on court. Lesley will work with everyone to achieve their individual goals. She truly wants all players to get along and to create a positive environment for the team."
"I have so much respect for Coach Feldman's passion and knowledge for the game. She cares about individuals and knows how to create a successful program. She is also great at recruiting girls that will all get along great, making the team culture and camaraderie incomparable."
"Very dishonest with communication issues among coaching staff. Important for recruits to speak with current and former athletes instead of solely relying on official visit/recruiting communication!"
"Highly motivated to be successful, doesn't always put the best team on the field. As a coach she is able to analyze talent and potential well in recruiting. Provides opportunity to advance in the program even as a young player, plays favorites as much as any other coach."
"Coach Spangler fosters a strong team environment but is not as concerned with individual development. He is a good coach for someone who is ready to enter directly into an intense training regimen with a complete focus on winning, but may not be a good option for an athlete who requires social support and a more individualized training."
"Bill was an amazing coach to me and my teammates. He is knowledgable, committed and passionate. He can be tough at times, but any great coach is. He will be honest with you and he expects the same in return. I wish every collegiate swimmer had my great experience in D-I swimming, but not every collegiate swimmer had Bill for a coach. "
"Coach Bill is a very knowledgeable and understanding coach who expects the best from his athletes at all times. He has a competitive spirit but keeps the focus on long term success."
"Coach Waters cares so much about every single one of her players. She is emotionally invested in every aspect of the game. Her attention to detail makes her a good coach. Her friendly yet authoritative attitude is unmatched in the world of softball."
"Malcolm knows everything about good rowing, but he also allows his mood about results to change his aggression and style, and will not take any fault for pushing athletes too far. "
"Stacey is a wonderful coach. She supports the team in a positive way, and cares about each individual athlete beyond their seat in the boat. She lets the athletes be accountable for what they do, and is always direct and honest about where we are and what we need to do. "
"Matthews is the whole package. Epitome of the perfect coach. To be a good fit for her and her program you must be a good person, an extremely hard worker, and a team player. Everyone has a role. She'll help you find yours. "
"The best coach I have ever had. She's hilarious, intense, hard-working, talented, and cares so much about every player on her team. She knows how to get results and make everyone around her better. "
"Coach Brad is one of the most genuine and thoughtful diving coaches I have ever dove with. He is extremely knowledgable about the sport (as evident by having many of his athletes win NCAA titles). He is very passionate about what he does. Brad occasionally over works and overcommits himself (he works a full time job, coaches two college teams and a club team). Despite this, he will go out of his way to ensure that each of his athletes are gets the attention that they need."
"Ryan Polley has completed a feat that many D1 coaches have not done, which is get a new program to a winning record in the first 3 years. The progress of the team is a testament to the ability of him and the coaching staff to overcome adversity that comes along with starting a program. As a young team there is a focus on fitness, fundamentals, and toughness instilled in practice. With every year the culture continues to build and grow, which is another goal of the coaching staff."
"While I was only on the team for a short time, I think Liz is a good coach. She pushes her players, she is very blunt with them and she knows what she is talking about. While she plays favorites, she is very upfront about it and is not afraid to be ( brutally) honest with you. I respect her as an individual despite the fact that I know many players that do not like her coaching style. Either way, if you are committing to BU, you better be ready to run."
"Dejan is an awesome person first and foremost, and it was always very clear in all our interactions. He genuinely cares about his players both on and off the court. His practices could be tougher and he could emphasize on court conditioning more."
"Neil is an incredible person. He goes above and beyond to help his athletes during and after college. His only weakness is that he and the other coaches struggle to communicate on-field information to the players. Practices become a bit repetitive and boring after a while and on-field information is not very advanced."
"Coach Waters is hand's down one of the best coaches that I have had the pleasure to play for. She genuinely cares for everyone of her players and will go out of her way if need to be to accommodate them. When it comes to the game of softball, her passion is contagious. She is consistent, academically flexible, and open to ideas and criticisms from the team - which makes communicating an easy task. Most importantly, she knows how to make the game fun again!"
"Extremely political when it comes to who plays and when. If you don't have a scholarship you are overlooked, even if you are a better player/fit. Off the field, he is a great person and good to be around."
"Coach Feldman is so knowledgeable and really knows what she is talking about. I have learned so much from her about the game and have really improved as a player especially tactically. She is a great coach but obviously you can't always agree with a coach's every decision and I definitely do not, but the team is still able to be successful and a cohesive unit. She has favorites and sometimes lets that affect choices for playing time. But I think that this is common for most coaches."
"Best coach there is... Couldn't have had a better coaching experience. Lesley is funny, a great coach, a great person, has an amazing sense of humour and I would highly recommend her to any incoming freshman that wants to have an amazing college tennis experience.. Which combines having fun and working hard!"
"politics and scholarships were things that drove playing time in the beginning of the season and those on the good end of those things were given more chances to play and succeed. My head coach was a great person off the field but was not in touch with the modern game."
"I loved my college experience as a student athlete, and would highly suggest being a student athlete to anybody who has the opportunity. It gives you such a sense of belonging, and you instantly have a good core group of friends. It makes transition from high school to college so much easier. It also teaches you so many life skills, in regards to, leadership, communication, cohesion, and many more."
"Coach Feldman is exactly what you want if you are a driven individual that isn't afraid to work hard and dedicate yourself to an amazing program. She understands the importance of life beyond soccer and pushes your limits in the game to prepare you for the "real world" that comes afterwards. She has built an amazing program with a culture that thrives on healthy competition and teamwork."
"My biggest criticism of my coaches is the hypocritical environment they created. Hard work was said to be the highest value but was never rewarded and players who fought for a chance to get playing time got a pat on the back if they were lucky. By my senior year I wasn't one of these players so I don't feel my position is completely bias, this was an occurrence I witnessed with my teammates. I understand that a coaches job is difficult, and many things were executed well by this staff, but I think fairness and honesty in order to cultivate a team environment should have priority. Or else why will your team want to fight for you?"
"politics and scholarships were things that drove playing time in the beginning of the season and those on the good end of those things were given more chances to play and succeed. My head coach was a great person off the field but was not in touch with the modern game."
"Coach Bennett is very into favorites. He is a man that believes more in favoritism than what is best for the team. Parents are his friends and kiss butt, he likes you."
