"An excellent coach and man. He was the victim of coddling players and parents. Gettysburg's loss! I have a daughter who played for him and totally respects him."
"Coach Brown has handled a truly bizarre incident that occurred between two brand new swimmers making extremely poor choices in a dorm room, with nothing but swift and appropriate ZERO tolerance action. The team has grown stronger because of it. No room on this team for racism nor for those who instigate such a foul action and then outrageously fail to own up to their own actions (seemingly with parental support to boot!).
As a parent, I applaud this coach and think he and his team should receive nothing but our unwavering continued support for the way he’s handled it.
A stranger than fiction tale of completely false narrative that ended up hurting a lot of quality people including a very special team of young people along with their coaches as well as true victims of actual racial discrimination and hate crimes.
Coach is a first class individual and I hope he and his team have a wonderful season, it will be well deserved! Looks like they are off to a great start in that direction!"
"I really enjoyed my four years swimming for Greg. I got faster every year under him swam times I never thought I could. I fell like if you want to do well in the pool, put the work in and listen you will do well and enjoy it. The swim team is large, and I imagine it’s hard to keep up with everyone having only one other full time coach, on top of all the other things coaches do. I felt like I could always go to him and he does care. I recommend Coach Greg, he great, but I think the athletes need to understand the program they are going to be apart of as a highly competitive program, with max rosters on both sides and only two coaches. "
"Greg is a great swim coach. Practices are great and many of his swimmers achieve success in the pool. He sets clear team standards but is understanding if there is communication. Wants the teams to do well and works hard to put us in positions to do so. Could improve on his overall relationships with swimmers outside the pool. "
"Retired but was a great coach. Straight forwards, salt of the earth, says it as it is. You got in what you put in. Cared a lot about athlete's development as young adults."
"Really not great. Views his athletes as potential "buddies," rather than as strictly his athletes, resulting in clear favoritism and at worst manipulation. Can run a practice, but is uninspiring, difficult to have hard conversations with, often fails to take accountability, often hypocritical... genuinely cannot relate to the typical student-athlete at Gettysburg college and fails to address team issues in a proactive manner. Sets unrealistic goals. Also promises D3 balance but is highly against students joining Greek life or studying abroad, which are two important and appealing factors of attending Gettysburg College."
"Campo has never been a collegiate baseball player and does not understand baseball. He has been at Gettysburg for over 35 years and has never won the Centennial Conference. Strictly goes by numbers/stats, ie throwing velo, hitting velo, 60 time, mile time. Wants all of his players to hit the same way. Destroys confidence. Doesn't know how to win. "
"Not sure who wrote about Hank Janczyk in the previous review but he is definitely a man of his word and would sacrifice anything for any player. A man who has heart and a determination to win. His reputation at Gettysburg speaks for itself. The facts do not lie. Your son will become the man you want him to be because of Janczyk's guidance. "
"One of the few men on staff that made the program worth while. A great man of integrity who never failed to greet me with a smile. He loves his players and Gettysburg College. I know I could email him any time of day and he'd be there for me, and I wasn't even in his position group. "
"Coach Campo is a great man has undoubtedly taught his student-athletes a lot of valuable lessons about life and how to be an outstanding citizen. His baseball coaching has a lot to be improved upon especially motivation and team moral management."
"A very passionate coach who cares about you as a student and a person. Extremely compassionate and great overall person. However, as a coach, she is unfair and does not develop players or produce winning teams. The competition level at Gettysburg is truly poor. "
"It is important to note that Coach Shenk works most closely with the distance runners. That being said as a head coach he has done a great job at bringing in other coaches that are really knowledgeable in other disciplines. Also need to give a shout out to the Assistant Coach, Coach Hartzler. "
"Best coach I've ever had. Changed the culture and course of our Men's soccer program completely in the 4 years I played with him. If you're serious about playing soccer and being a great player, there are few coaches who are better than him."
"Coach Cantele was one of the greatest coaches I've ever had. She was always willing to meet and help me, offer advice or critiques if I wanted them. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. She knows how to motivate, push, and advance her teams in all the right ways. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a coach."
"She knows a lot but isn't very concerned with developing players and making them better. If you aren't a starter from the very beginning, she won't bother to make you one. "
"She knows a lot but isn't very concerned with developing players and making them better. If you aren't a starter from the very beginning, she won't bother to make you one. "
"He is very knowledgeable about the sport and wants every athlete to be successful regardless of talent level. If you put in the time and effort you will show improvement. If you reach out to him he will explain any decision he made to you and is very dedicated."
"Hands down the best coach I have had in my 20 years of playing lacrosse. Carol is smart, passionate, kind...all while promoting a healthy spirited team dynamic on and off the field. Her winning records and player retention speak for themselves!"
"Although his tactics seems old school, it's still a training regiment that was made for runners who ran extremely fast times back in the day. He is caring about our improvement and pushes us to improve immensely. One thing he can do better is not put up with athletes complaining or lying to him about various things. He should be stricter on that. "
"He is the best! He adapts to your needs and always has the best interest of his athletes in mind. Gettysburg is lucky to have someone as caring as coach Shenk."
"George Petrie seems to know basically nothing about golf. If there was a time he was to talk to you it seemed as if he was just reprimanding you on something you have done wrong. His way about the team and his overall composure has led the players to disrespect him. I have heard on many occasions that players have quit the team due to his actions."
"George Petrie has absolutely no business being a golf coach. He lacks golf knowledge and his poor leadership has led the most talented team in the conference to underperform on a regular basis. His temperament and antics make playing for him a nightmare, and as a result, many have lost the desire to play. His retirement is long overdue."
"He is incredibly smart when it comes to the game and I trust his decision making in tight situations. There is no doubt that he is a great basketball coach. Despite this, he can be dishonest at times and hide things from the team, and in general is just not the best with communication. He can come off as very sneaky sometimes."
"He's really sweet and means well but his coaching techniques are very old school which will sometimes put some athletes at a disadvantage. While his tactics may work well for some, they can Be disadvantageous to others which is frustrating sometimes. He has so much passion for the sport and his athletes however, and wants to see you succeed! "
"Has a strong passion for the sport, however, lacks any motivational aspects in coaching style. Often times "old-school" and inflexible but wants to see his athletes improve. "
"He's a great person to have as a coach. He's smart, knowledgeable about the game and always look to improve. He tries to involve the students/players opinions into decisions on how to better practices and games and that has helped to out success in the last couple of years "
"Absolute joke. All talk and doesn't live by his word. Favors players. Losing his mind. Needs to retire need new coach and style of play. Covers up for players. "
"No idea how to relate to players, thinks his way is the only way to do it, Literally only looks at statistics, runs the team as a dictatorship, has no leadership qualities and is very negative towards players when they're slumping, doesn't make any adjustments based on player's athletic abilities, coaches his players to play like robots"
"Never played competitive baseball. Was a collegiate football player as well as a former coach at Gettysburg. Coaches baseball as if it were football, only worried about measurable attributes ex. arm velocity, exit speed, etc. Will never guarantee anybody a spot on the team under any circumstances"
"I compare Coach Petrie to the captain of the titanic, he sees the iceberg and decides to drive full force into it. With every season much like the titanic the team plunges and falters. He has made a career of coaching mediocre teams and holding back potential."
"George Petrie single-handedly ruined my desire to play the game of basketball. He was unfair, discourteous, and hot-headed. I questioned his knowledge of the game from the first day of practice of my freshman year. He treated his players as nothing more than pawns who's sole purpose is to play basketball. Our academic interests and personal lives seemed meaningless to him. My recruiting class consisted of 10 players, currently, only 2 remain on the team as juniors."
"Coach Cantele is an amazing coach. She cares deeply for each and every one of her players. She is someone I look up to and admire. I know that I can always turn to her for advice and guidance. She pushes every player on our team to be their very best and wants nothing but success for us."
"Aside from the rural environment, Gettysburg men's lacrosse facilities is one of the many highlights for the campus. The accessibility to get to different spots, while utilizing the facilities on campus is what any d-3 athlete would dream of. "
