"Very bipolar did not enjoy playing for him. The team bonded over disliking him so much, the only reason we were successful. Made us do timed runs for pretty much everything."
"Coach Patrovich gave my son a great opportunity. I will always appreciate that he reached out to him. He was also always personable, accessible and easy to communicate with. In wrestling, he is a local legend and I could see why."
"As a former player, by far the worst coach I have ever had. She has favorites, inexperienced, does not give anyone a chance, immature, lashes out, and is unfair. After her first year of coaching, five of her players quit soccer including me and two players transferred schools. If that doesn’t say enough then I don’t know what does. She does not care about her players (only a select handful) and does not know how to develop them because she does not know the game as she is a goalkeeper. Not to mention how she was handed the head coach job when she did not earn it or deserve it, which is unfortunate because the program could have really turned around if it weren’t for the lack of judgement and laziness when hiring a new head coach. "
"Toxic and abusive is the best way to describe him. If you do something wrong on the court he will direct expletive laced tirades of how stupid you are, and when you do the right thing he will still insult you. 20 girls transferred out or left the team in last 3 seasons. They finally fired him this year, good riddance."
"Lucy has worked really hard to make our team better on and of the field. She has taken the program to a better place since she has become head coach. I look forward to playing with her this season."
"Stephen tries his best with what he is given. With that being said, he sometimes takes a long time to respond to issues unless they are super important."
"Bill loves to lift his teams up and always gives great welcome and introductions at the beginning of the year. He is always positive and trying to do why is best for you!"
"Although Bill is nice and a cool guy, he seems like he doesn't know what he's doing and acts in the best interest of the school rather than the student-athlete. "
"The AD was never a bad person never disrespectful or unfair in fact was always very enthusiastic and positive and wanted you to succeed. that said his actions did not align with his words. some decisions while I was on the team were so poor it did more damage than good and he was not good at communicating or being honest with players. He doesn't provide equal resources interest or support in all teams which never made sense to me as you'd think he'd want to improve all sports and aspects of the department. He always has good intentions and has done some very good things but some very bad. Im no AD but I'm just not sure how good at his job he is."
"Truth is he is great and always willing to help but he also has all the athletes to help. Sometimes I think he just does not have enough resources or time to always respond right away or take action but he always will and will get back to you"
"The truth is there is a increase in sports and athletes and not enough equipment. The training room is too small, weight room too small. There is not enough equipment to work out or get extra work in, we share the main weight room after 3pm with the full study body on campus there is not enough athlete specific equipment. No feeling station or good dining options on campus. No where to study or relax as an athlete and only one turf field which most teams share which makes scheduling classes very difficult.
The reality is the facilities and equipment were the bare minimum and we had everything needed (on paper) but the facilities and equipment did not ever add any advantage or strength to us and it becomes abundantly clear when you aren't able to work out or use equipment or get treatment simply because there is no availability or space. "
"Todd was always helpful and saved me a ton of time and stress by helping and providing info regarding class schedules and all things academic. Other success coaches were not good and Todd always helped even if he was not your coach"
"The facilities need to be updated. They simply have nothing to them and need an athlete specific dining hall to accommodate the needs of athletes. In need of more fields. "
"Helped me out with a scholarship issue when the coaching staff changed which was super helpful. However, it seems as if he almost doesn’t know what he was doing with his staffing. He fired the head coach out of the blue after some parents & students complained. The whole team did not feel this way about the coach, obviously in college not everyone is going to like their coach. The new guy he brought in was horrible, a clear consensus of hate towards the new hire was met amongst the team. He then quit after 1 season. That was my only issues with the AD. "
"Bobby is one of the coolest coaches that I have encountered. He really cares about mental health and taking care of both your mind and body. This is something we need more of in college athletics. I am so grateful to have worked with him. He also really cares about each athlete on such a huge team. "
"He is hard to get ahold of and seems to care more about protecting coaches rather than athletes. He does not seem to understand how much athletes put into their sports. I have not had a good experience with bill."
"Lucy was a newer coach when I had her as a coach, I think after a few seasons she will be an awesome coach. She was not the most understanding about demanding course loads. She had a different perspective on coaching as a former goalkeeper but some of the drills we did in practice seemed very elementary/disorganized. "
"As head AD, Bill has been someone who shows that he really does care about LIU and the athletic program, but he can be vague when talking to players. He does not always give the most information to student-athletes during coaching changes and new developments around the athletic department. He communicates more with the coaches and staff members in person, but will always get back to your emails."
"Scott is an amazing strength and conditioning coach who has helped build the fitness and strength of me and my teammates while at LIU. He's young and relatable while also being super funny and friendly!"
"Stephen is a nice staff member who is a friendly face around the athlete department, but he does take awhile to respond to emails as he is busy with a lot of things."
"The facilities are ok but they definitely are outdated. It is sometime very challenging to secure field time with so many sports and only one turf field. "
"Chris Sauer is a very knowledgeable person about the sport of cross. He knows a lot and try’s his absolute best. However he can be narrow minded at times and not open to change. He also may procrastinate a thing or two. He cares about his athletes."
"She does not put players first, frequently asked them to play on injuries that ended up resulting in surgeries. She held the team out of competitions because she did not want to go, including nationals. She frequentlyp told the players too much about her personal life and traumas, then told them they did not deserve to play for disrespecting her and the sport. She constantly compared us to West Point, and would leave give our team off to go spend time with the West Point team instead of us. She felt that school was “getting in the way of rugby” for her team. She thought that every game we lost was because we were not fit enough, and not the fact that we were simply worse players than the other teams. She was incapable of effectively communicating what she wanted or expected and would then blow up on the team for not reading her mind. Her coaching was the worst athletic coaching experience I have ever had. She was so disrespectful and disorganized, she was absolutely awful to players and played favorites heavily, I would never recommend her to ever be in any coaching position with any sort of power. The only way the team was tight knit is from bonding through the experiences she put us through, like not getting on flights out of state with us or telling us to figure out our own ways back to campus after landing from an out of state flight at midnight. "
"Lucy Gillet is a terrible coach. I tried to give 0 stars for the motivational, caring, and honest categories, but it wouldn’t let me. She did not earn, nor deserve, the title of head coach, but was named it basically by default. She does not embody a head coach by any means. I was personally excited for her to be my coach, given her very recent experience with college soccer. However, my excitement was VERY quickly shot down. I also thought that she would be easy to get along with and would be understanding of intense school schedules due to her young age and recent experiences in college herself, but I was very wrong about this as well. She is power hungry and loves to dangle her superiority over her player’s heads at absolutely every chance she gets. She also constantly shows her superiority over her assistant coaches, as she treats them horribly yet makes them do all of her work. She is not a knowledgeable coach whatsoever and should have never been given a head coaching title at the division 1 level. She single handedly destroyed my confidence on the field, and I know for a fact that I am not the only one who she has made feel this way. After just one season with her, not a single senior stayed to play their 5th year (despite all having the ability to do so due to Covid) AND 6 players transferred to other schools… her track record certainly speaks for itself.
