"While he has a strong knowledge of volleyball and understands the game, in my experience, his ability to manage and develop female athletes is a very different story. The environment he created was emotionally exhausting, divisive, and at times extremely toxic. Rather than bringing players together and building confidence, his coaching style often created tension between teammates. Players were embarrassed or shamed in front of others, athletes were punished for the mistakes or actions of their teammates, and expectations and consequences often felt inconsistent and unfair. Over time, this created an atmosphere where players were worried about making mistakes or becoming the next target instead of feeling supported enough to learn, compete, and grow. What makes this especially unfortunate is that he truly does know volleyball. However, knowing the game and knowing how to lead young women are two very different skills. "

"Coach Hoover always kept it honest with me. She pushed me hard, but I never questioned whether she cared about me. She celebrated my successes, held me accountable when I needed it, and constantly reminded me that I was capable of more than I thought. What I appreciated most was that she cared about who I was becoming off the field just as much as what I did on it. Having a coach who believes in you like that makes all the difference."

Disorganized Poor Communication Respectful To Players Understanding

"Disorganized coaching, serious issue of having favorites along with not keeping a professional relationship with players, why does a current player know who he’s cutting based on conversations they are having? We would not hear anything about practice when there was a weather concern until 2 hours beforehand. Refused to get an assistant coach and let his girlfriend coach from the sidelines. Would let players treat each other however in front of his face without any repercussions. If you want your program to receive a severe downfall, or plan to get rid of your program and need an excuse as to why, let him coach! Over half the team was debating quitting mid-season from how much he did not care about our development (except his favorites). Worst experience I’ve ever had coaching in my entire career. Would put 0 stars if I could"

"Consistent bullying, humiliation, and harassment. Witnessed several jovial and fun-loving teammates be torn apart on a daily basis shattering the self esteem, confidence, and mental health of so many young women. Repeated team discussions about weight and constant racist remarks. A blatant disregard for the safety of black women, we often were put in situations that were not safe and were chastised for speaking up. I’m sure myself and several other young women are still healing from the effects of such harmful treatment. "

"Manipulated and lied to players about scholarships and playing time. He is racist working in HBCU!! Protected by AD there is no place that players can go to and share their experience. Jody plays who he likes not who deserves. Respects players only when he needs them, otherwise screws them. While coaching in club was sabotaging recruitment for players. "He is extremely secretive, does not share info with team. He is in way over his head. Does not care if we win or loss. I really wish he would leave, it's not fair to the team. "My coach is not respected nor does he know the game. The school turns their head regarding how poorly the team is run.
