"The OU athletic department values coaches more than its own student-athletes. Head Coach, Mason Norman, puts no value on the "student" aspect of "student-athlete". Ohio University Women's Swimming&Diving coaching staff is deceitful and manipulative."
"Poor communication and dishonest; does not care about his swimmers as people, only about his outcome. Be aware that should you unfortunately have an off season or injury, this same transfer portal which brought you to him will be the same one where you will be exiting as he will cut and move on to the next recruit (which you will have helped recruit). You are simply a number and are disposable. "
"Lacking in leadership and integrity. Has lost multiple assistant coaches over the last few years. Is not committed to the welfare of his swimmers. Is condescending and dismissive of student-athletes’ and parents’ questions. Has a propensity to use people, but not form lasting, meaningful relationships. Not and ideal leader or coach. Doesn’t seem to have the constitution to do what is consistently right and in the best interest of his student-athletes. Puts himself before team and others. I would avoid this program and coach if you have other options."
"Not to be trusted. Dishonest and lacking in integrity. His issues are not technical or in teaching strokes and time improvements . He lacks a moral compass and does not care about the student-athletes he recruits and coaches. He is self-centered and out of touch with what it means to be a grown man leading young women. If you can swim anywhere else, I’d strongly recommend it. The words best used to describe him do not belong on a public site. I’d be happy to discuss with you by email or phone. "
"Playing under Coach Brennan Whitis has been an incredible experience. Initially, I was nervous when he took over as head coach, but he quickly proved himself to be the most knowledgeable and supportive coach I’ve ever had.
Coach Whitis's on-the-course work during tournaments is exceptional. He adapts his communication style to match each player's personality, ensuring we all receive the support and motivation we need.
His ability to generate funds and develop comprehensive plans, including creating an indoor facility and strengthening our northern school program, is commendable. These initiatives have greatly enhanced our training and overall experience.
Beyond his coaching skills, Coach Whitis is genuine and approachable, always open to discussing both golf and non-golf topics. This has fostered a positive and supportive team environment.
Overall, Coach Brennan Whitis has been instrumental in my development as a player and a person, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been coached by him."
"A great coach that cares about his athletes. Is hilarious and everyone on the team loves him. Although he is a very kind person, he is extremely intense with training and pushes you to your limits physically and mentally. He has very old school coaching customs but he is very open minded and understanding."
"Has been a great coach to have, makes the position group feel like a family. Very knowledgeable about the game and does a great job developing players."
"He’s been coaching me for a year now and I’ve loved every moment. He doesn’t lie to you and tells you when you’re messing and up gives you help to fix whatever issue is wrong"
"Coach Allen is gonna be honest with you during practice, but he’s doing it to help you progress as a player. He takes academics seriously and will be on you weekly about keeping up good grades."
"He is a very good coach he is transparent so it is easy to talk to him , and he takes his work serious and is very organized which translates with the way he teaches you the game. "
"Not motivating, liar, and doesn’t care about the players. The type of coach that makes you hate the game and quit to work a job. Would trust that jesus has came back before i take his word. "
"Improves swimmers and sees the potential in swimmers. He was able to have swimmers drop large amounts of time from season to season. He is great at believing in you. He also can be honest with you and tries to always help you get better. "
"Herm was a big reason why I picked OU. She knows how to push her players to be the best while also supporting them in their personal lives. She was an amazing coach who I respected in the field but love even more getting to know her away from the game."
"Deane is a great coach who not only cares about you as a player, but more importantly, as a person. He is a family oriented coach who understands that family and school come first, while maintaining a winning record at a Top 50 school."
"Clay is a great guy and a great talker. He's great at talking to recruits, when he remembers to recruit them, and knows a lot about Ohio University. He is a very positive and optimistic person, although often forgetful and somewhat aloof. Whether it be race entering, recruiting, scheduling a bus, or organizing a meet, he sometimes forgets to make time for all of those little things. Overal a nice coach, but not my ideal idea of a "head coach"."
"Joel Greenlee is an amazing coach. With over 20 years of coaching a Division 1 wrestling program he has more knowledge than one could imagine. His commitment to continuing learning and staying connected to what is happening in the rest of the wrestling world is fantastic. I'm very glad that I chose to compete for Coach Greenlee and the Ohio University Bobcats over my other university choices."
"Mason has helped move the program in a great direction through his positive attitude, passion for the sport, and true care for his athletes. He will always bring great energy to practice! "
"I never got the chance to fully play under him but the words that came behind his name held a lot of weight. He has keep this organization in the light that it needs to be and also made it a better place."
"I have had a great experience at this university and I believe the facilities help the athletes get better r but they are not top-of-the-, such as the higher funded schools around the country."
"I improved exponentially from when I started at Ohio, while the team has improved exponentially from when Mason started at Ohio. Mason has completely changed Ohio University’s team for the better and has created a great team culture. He cares about everyone of us. "
"The best coach ive ever had, brings the best energy on deck and is always there before practice to talk and chat and make jokes. Always makes me feel like I belong on the team and that my races matter. Has brought Ohio up and created a great team culture."
