"I have had plenty of rowing coaches between middle school, high school, and college. Coach Shawn has been the best coach I have ever had. He cares about the team and sport and has a strong relationship with everyone on the team, and pushes everyone to get stronger."
"Here's the deal - college sports aren't for everyone. Is Coach Roser tough? Yea. Does she hold kids accountable? Absolutely, But guess what - real life is tough, corporate America is tough (especially for women), bosses are tough. She's getting our kids ready for LIFE, not just softball. She sets the expectations for the program and for players on DAY ONE every year with the idea that every year is a new opportunity for each kid to work hard every day to earn their way on the field. I don't think it could be more fair than that. All you can want for your kid is a fair shot to earn their spot on the field. I'm proud to have sent my kid to a school where a coach prepares them for REAL life and not a fairytale, because life after college is hard and people will have high expectations and guess what, that's okay! These kids will be equipped to handle it because of coaches like Coach Roser. "
"I played under Coach Roser during my senior year at Rollins College. Before Coach Roser, the culture at Rollins was toxic and unstable. Coach Roser was hired in October (only 3 months before the start of season) with 14 players on the roster--7 players being graduating seniors. Everyone started from scratch, including her; you had to earn your spot regardless of your name or your previous stats. In those short three months, Coach Roser prepared our team for an incredible season--a season in which we made it to the 2022 Regional Tournament.
Before Coach Roser, I had decided against using my extra two years of eligibility (Covid) due to the horrid environment that the previous coach had created; however, as I told Coach Roser in my exit meeting at the end of season, Roser created and established an environment and culture that I was sad to be leaving. Had I been physically able to continue playing the sport I loved, I would have in a heartbeat because I wanted to play for her (Roser). In my 22 years of both playing and coaching softball, I have never met someone more willing to get their hands dirty and do the hard work with their players (some practices she left sweating more than we were). I can say with utmost sincerity that Coach Roser is as good as they come. I believe that in order to know how far you can go, you need to be pushed beyond your limits. Coach Roser saw our potential and pushed us to get there, especially when we didn't believe we could get there ourselves. Coach Roser will push you, and there will be hard days, but everything she does is for the team. If you can't handle accountability and hard work, Rollins is not the place for you, nor is Coach Roser the coach for you.
Coach Roser is caring and approachable, and she understands the values of her players. I had a family emergency in March of my senior year. Without hesitating, Coach Roser told me to go home and be with my family. I declined, but it meant everything to me that she encouraged me to spend time with family. Many college coaches out there would not have suggested this, but she did. Coach Roser values family, integrity, and grit.
I graduated almost 4 years ago and I still have a great relationship with Roser. She is someone I look up to, someone I can count on especially now as a Head Coach myself. Her dedication to me and my success didn't stop after I graduated, it grew. She strives to see her athletes succeed both on and off the field. If I could have changed one thing about my college experience, it would have been for Roser to be my coach my entire collegiate career. "
"Future college athletes! It’s a RED FLAG when 75% of an incoming class doesn’t return to the team the following year including 4 JUCO players who quit even before the end of their first Spring season.
Numerous trainers and assistant coaches have come and gone the past 3 years.
Despite being a D2 school where academics and athletics should be “balanced”, 5 hour weekday practices were not uncommon. She gets away with it because the field is a mile off campus so no one is monitoring the excessive hours.
It’s a good thing our player didn’t tell us about the neck flicking until after she left the team.
As a former Psychology major, Roser knows the power of words and she uses hers to demean and belittle her team of really hard-working athletes that don’t deserve it. Girls that loved the game and sacrificed so much in the 10 years prior to being recruited, transferred out or quit forever after only 8 months under Roser.
After so many complaints, there’s word she’s eased up recently but it’s disturbing to know that is how she chose to be a leader.
Why do I need to choose at least 1-star rating for “Caring”, “Motivational” and “Honest” to submit the review? "
" She was softball alum who played under the former head coach so he gave her the head coach job right after he fired the previous coaches. They have been buddies for years. Was mentioned in a previous review that 75% of a recruiting class did not return. That same year so many girls went to a counselor about eroding mental health and manipulation by Roser. Nothing was done and the treatment continued. Last year several girls were caught smoking pot at an overnight team event and Roser punished entire team by pulling out of the Gulf Shores Invitational. The real reason was kept from administration and some of the girls who were caught told their parents it was because of too many injuries. The roster was and is 29. Plenty of players who could have played. She refuses to take responsibility for the team culture. Its always someone else's fault. Usually assistant coaches get the blame. Probably why she is on her sixth assistant in five years. Majority of administration is well aware of the years of documented abuses (people saying they were flicked in the neck, humiliated, injuries disregarded, lied to)."
"Everyone on team is allowed to date each other because she says she did it when she was a player so..... She does not care it ruins team cohesion practice and dugout. If anyone brings up the toxicity it creates, which many do, they face negativity. The environment is over sexualized and even assistant coaches have been involved with being too close to players. Head coach and volunteer assistant know and hide it from AD or the AD knows and covers for the coach. They only care about covering for themselves instead of doing the right thing."
"MISERABLE does not begin to cover the sentiment that not only my daughter but every athlete in her entire recruitment class experienced while under Roser-LeFevers. None remained after Freshman year. Wost part is my daughter had many options and as a result of the abuse, name calling, public humiliation and complete disregard for injuriy, Roser LE-Fevers took my daughter from a happy, enthusuastic passionate athelete with a lifelong love and passion for softball to someone w ZERO self esteem and a broken spirit who no longer cares to ever see a diamind again.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN NEAR THIS PERSON !"
"Lied to me throughout the entire recruiting process and then when I got there and got injured, threw me to the side like I did not matter and made me work through my injury, making it worse. genuinely made me lose my luck for the game and is the reason I no longer play softball."
"Jamie has no ideas what he is doing. He is not a Rollins anymore he is the head coach at Stetson. This man is the worst. He is a master manipulator, liar and creates a toxic environment . I played for him last year and he has destroyed my love and many other players love for the game. I quit playing because of him. His new team is absolutely terrible. I heard the team was all doing mental health classes. That should tell you what he has done to the entire team. We are not talking about one person. The one common denominator is Jamie . His assistant coach even quit mid season because she couldn’t take it anymore. The level of play is at a middle school level. He has no idea what he is doing and it shows. The team has gotten worse since Chris , the previous coach. I feel sorry for my former teammates as they had to endure another season with him. Do not play for this guy. He’s an awful human being who loves to degrade women."
"As soon as she decides she no longer likes you she will make it known to you with absolutely spiteful behavior. She will give you a good flick in the neck in the back of the dugout or punish you until you are sick. It's on purpose to humiliate and break you in to quitting and she can replace you with the next shiny object. That never works out either. All of her personal anger is taken out on the non-favorites. Sad that it's allowed to continue at a very expensive private college that prides itself on empathy, inclusion. "
"The program is awful for your mental health. the swearing at you, public humiliating, fear of making an error and if you bring mental health issues to coach or administration, she tells you to just deal with it and not be so weak. Got rid of a coach for getting to close to players and fired another because a player complained of unwanted advances. Title nine complaint waiting to happen. Every assistant coach except the volunteer assistant has come and gone. Quit or fired. Players told to keep the firings on the down low so she does not get in trouble with administration. Drug use by favorites hidden from administration. She is insanely manipulative and lies. She was a good player when in college but that does not make someone a good coach. The environment is really a free for all and a giant mess. I guess when you are buddies with the Athletic Director you can get away with whatever you want to save face. "
"Where do I even begin? So many reasons to avoid this program. After a season of never playing the field or hitting your money is taken away or cut so you are unable to afford to return. Practices going over allowed hours and returning to campus well after dining halls closed. If you don't have a vehicle you go without or must rely on Uber Eats out of your own pocket even though you are paying for a very expensive necessary meal plan for dorm living. She blames losses on individuals by singling them out by name in front of the team. For people in the stands, the lady who is yelling at the umpires and opposing fans is Head coach's wife. She has to be babysat by the administrator on duty because of Un sportsmanship complaints by other teams. Dugout is toxic as players are allowed to date. Then they breakup, fight, other players feeling like they have to pick sides, constant tension. Several players walk away from the program mid-season every year. Favorite players get away with team violations while others are punished worse for lesser violations. Athletic administration is aware as plenty of players have gone to them with concerns. Know what you are getting in to."
"During recruitment you are told how much you are needed at the program because the people currently playing your position are not good. She brings in huge rosters and then majority of Freshman who were told how needed they were get no playing time and then several Freshman get cut after every season. Now you are left with no stats, no options, and an end to your softball dreams. Your only value to her is being a bull pen catcher to the huge number of pitchers. Her favorites are not held accountable. Team is constantly fighting with each other, mostly because everyone on the team dates each other. Credits are too hard to transfer to other schools so if not cut you feel trapped and wishing you would have gone somewhere else from the start."
"Unprofessional, talks poorly about players to other players during practices, changes team code of conduct to protect favorites, disrespect of players to such a significant level leading to player turnover and toxic environment, bullies players causing public humiliation, retaliatory towards anyone who voices concerns, can't keep assistant coaches. EVERY year they quit or are fired. One left mid-season as she could not stand the environment. What you are told during recruitment is opposite of what the environment is actually like. Even talked poorly to a recruit about existing players. "
"This guy is horrible. Direct representation of Rollins College. Do not waste your talent coming to play for this arrogant loser. If you want to improve as a player, build your skills, and enjoy your collegiate career do not play for this deuche. Maybe it's time for administration to fire him. His record speaks for itself. "
"I used to love playing tennis until I got Jay Friedman as my coach. Jay is the worst tennis coach I have ever had; he lies to us players, threatens with scholarships, thinks it’s more of a fitness program than tennis, and doesn’t care if you are injured. Jay Friedman does not hesitate to throw threats at you as a player and kick you off the team. If you really like tennis, do not come to Rollins and play for him. "
"Respectful, sincere, super nice and cares tremendously about each athlete. Rollins Crew is a place where you’d like to start your rowing career as he teaches the fundamentals. Patient as well. Pistor does, however, not have the knowledge and experience to make the team anything beyond mediocre result wise. Recruits stagnate and training lacks a clear purpose/vision, partly because all the novices are integrated from day one. "
"I have never felt less support from a coach in my entire career as an athlete. Not only has he ruined my view of my sport but his negative attitude towards both me and my peers has made me never want to play again. "
"Mika does not care about her players and is narcissistic at her core. Coming in she lovebombs freshmen to then do awful things to them later. Every year people quit the team just because of her. Many players also have to take an extra semester as Mika does not allow them to take the classes they need for their academics. I would strongly advise anyone joining her team, she should have been fired a long time ago (too bad her bestie is the athletic department chair)."
"Sjrogren was a great coach during my time at the school! Problem was... he was a really hard person to read. You could never tell how he felt somedays. It was difficult learning how to build a relationship with him. He seamed miserable most of the time, which at times also sucked the energy out of the team during practices and games. If it wasn't for the talent of his players, he wouldn't have gained the success he's had over the last few years. Rollins baseball program could really do so much better! The assistants pretty much do most of the job. They are the glue of the team. Sjrogren is just the face that takes all the credit. "
"As a leader on our team, I have a very close relationship with coach D and he is someone when I have kids of my own that go through the recruiting process i will help them find a coach that is like Coach DiClementi."
"Coach Pat may not be the world’s most knowledgeable coach, but he understands that which provides a unique opportunity for development. He cares deeply for his athletes, and rightfully is a highly respected coach. "
"Coach Julianne completed change the Rollins Swim Team culture while she is a young coach she works harder than any coach I have ever seen and when you put in the work she will do everything for you. So happy I got swim with her in my college career. "
"Coach Julianne is one of the best coaches I have ever had. She understands the sport and takes input from the team, and pushes you to be the best that you can. Her coaching style is positive and comes from a place of care, and doesn't need to use fear to gain the teams respect. I'm lucky to have her as my coach as she always takes time to talk to her team, whether it's about swimming or something else that's going on."
"Walker is truly an amazing coach. He cares about everyone’s success and instills confidence in his swimmers. He pushes you to be the best you can be and is understanding. He is accessible and honest with you. Personally, that is the desired coaching style for me and I have seen more success as an athlete with the support of our assistant and head coach!"
"Julianne has been nothing short of an amazing coach. She truly cares about all her swimmers and is very understanding of everything. She definitely pushes you to become the best athlete and person you can be, but is extremely compassionate. She’s approachable and cares about everyone. "
"I was only on the crew team for 2 months at the end of the season as a walk-on after my swimming career was over. I knew nothing about crew, but Pistor was able to develop my skills and pushed me to be at competition level after just a few weeks. Even though I was brand new to the sport, he was incredibly encourage ing and positive when I doubted myself. His assistance coaches make a dynamic groups and have unyielding faith in the whole team. They are intense and incredibly knowledgeable. I wish I had more time to give to the team, it was a great expiroence!"
"Walker is a young coach, but he knows swimming very well. He is usually pretty quiet (maybe shy) and not aggressive unless it’s meet day. His feedback and criticism are always constructive and helpful. Walker does tend to have a few favorites on the team. His energy is matched well with head coach Julianne, a dynamic duo."
"Walker has been there for me any time I needed him - whether swimming related or otherwise. His experience has given him the ability to help any athlete with any setback in the most positive way."
"Julianne cares deeply about her athletes and the sport of swimming. She holds us to a high standard and always wants us to do our best all while giving us the tools to do so."
"I love Coach Julianne, she is very honest and tells you directly about what she expects. She also is very approachable and communicative with her athletes. "
"My experience on the women’s lacrosse team under coach Short was difficult at first but overall a big growing experience and great community. You get out of it what you put in, if you go for individuals and show the coaches you want to take the time to really improve then you’ll get a good response from him. Overall, he is a pretty understanding coach and wants the best for each of his players."
"I’ve had a lot of struggles so far in college, but coach Walker is very understanding and caring to his athletes while still knowing where to draw the line between special treatment and appropriate courtesy."
"i have swam for 15+ years and julianne is by far the best coach i have had. she is always very encouraging while also being honest and she cares about her athletes in all aspects of life (not just swimming). "
"Coach Julianne is always willing to help each of her swimmers with anything they need. She is always ready to adapt to each swimmers personal needs and ensure they are getting the correct training they need. "
"Good athletic trainer overall, sometimes he is not in a good mood and he can transmit that. He is organize. It can be hard to communicate effectively with him. With athletes that he knows better he seems very nice but it is very hard to get along with. "
"I’ve been coached by Walker for the past year and he’s the best. He creates a super fun environment for all of us. There is no one else I’d rather have as an assistant coach. "
"He’s one of the most caring person I know. Regardless of his amazing experience on the water; he stands out for his amazing personality. I don’t think I’ll ever meet someone who cares more for his athletes as he does! "
"I’ve been coached by Julianne for the past year and she creates such a fun environment for her athletes. It’s not easy but you will get great results."
"As an athlete that was ecstatic to play lacrosse at a DII “powerhouse”, I was fully disappointed with my time on the Rollins women’s lacrosse team under the coaching of Coach Dennis Short. While Coach Short is extremely knowledgeable in the game of lacrosse and has many accolades to back this up, the culture that is fostered under his leadership was by far the worst team culture I have experienced in my entire life— an isolating experience that led me to leave the team. While all sports teams have their problems anywhere an athlete chooses to go, I wish that I had known that what I was told by Coach Short during the recruiting process was not accurate. It was a priority of mine to commit to a program where there was a sense of community amongst players— not to all be best friends, but to have one another’s back as fellow teammates. I was told during my recruiting process that no athletes left the team for any other reason other than injury-related incidents. During my time on the team, I found that this was not true. ”Cliques” of girls remained on and off the field. Coach Short explained his viewpoint that COVID-19 created many of these problems for the team cohesiveness, but after speaking to several upperclassmen, it became clear to me that the team operated extremely similarly prior to COVID starting in March 2020. Beneath the “powerhouse” team lies a group of girls that are cutthroat and mostly unkind. Those that were kind and team players transferred. "
"Good coach, but as a D2 player, I wanted the focus to be balanced between school and athletics. However, it seemed that sometimes she would make us put volleyball over school."
"Brad's a great guy. Always committed to the success of the team and most days her wants to be there just as much as all of us. Super supportive and fun."
"Sjogren has us play games against awful competition so he can boost stats and stay above water when it comes to keeping his job. If he worked half as hard as the assistants, then maybe people would respect him."
