"Coach Van Vechten became defense and combative when question on the questionnaire platform she sent my daughter to fill out personal information about herself and they family. The URL had no reference of Rochester, and a quick google search of the URL resulted in 3 different companies coming up, some okay, some not. Instead of listening to a parent concerned about identity theft as the minimum, and human trafficking as the worst, she seemed completely confused as to why I would question where my data was going, and what measures were in place to protect our data and my daughters safety. She really didn't seem to understand the concern, defaulted to the decision is made above my pay grade, and seemed to want to dispatch the problem because it was inconvenient and she didn't have an answer. If you're treating a parent this way, I can only imagine how an 18-22 year old student is going to be treated if the come with a challenging question."
"Van vechten is currently coaching at the University of Rochester since 2022. Her coaching style is impulsive, unobjective, and emotional. She uses modern buzz words like growth mindset, shared team culture, personal accountability. Her actions and communication style are overly authoritarian and blurr into condescending and bullying behavior.
$30,000 of player-raised funds have gone unaccounted for while players don’t have enough socks, shorts, or gear for the entire team. VanVecten places player safety at risk by not allowing dynamic warmup or dynamic stretching Yes. She doesn’t allow it! She keeps injured players at practice shagging balls rather than off their feet. She is prone to outbursts of personal player attacks, and character shaming. Players are overly intimidated by her and scared to say what they feel in front of her, but to listening ears all players will state that the team experience is miserable. Even her assistant coaches tell the players that she is unobjective and choosing to focus on the wrong factors of a team environment while being less than ideal as a head coach. Do not play for this coach. That’s all the can be emphasized. "
"Great guy, absolutely the most I’ve felt cared about by a coach, the most I’ve ever felt a coach has invested in me personally, but definitely a little overbearing and over involved in personal and team matters. Seemed to favor fitness over soccer skills and didn’t always make the best soccer first calls to help us win games, but a genuinely great guy who impacted my experience for the better nonetheless."
"He is emotionally abusive and manipulative. Has a lot of mental health issues that he seeks support for from his players. Focuses more on being a part of his players lives than coaching soccer."
"Trainers really care about athletes and go the extra mile. Great facilities all around. Only downside is having to share field time. New locker rooms constantly being upgraded."
"Wendy is the best field hockey coach I have come into contact with during all my years of playing sports. She is very understanding and goes beyond her job description to help her players on and off the field. "
"Emily is by far the best coach I have ever had. Every single thing she does has so much reason and intention behind it. She is very transparent and friendly. "
"I've never trusted a coach as much as I trust Coach Albert. He knows what he is talking about and he is very honest and tries to help each athlete fulfill their best potential regardless of the amount of talent. He treats his athletes as people first. Great coach. "
"Is an extremely talented recruiter but not fit to be head coach. Athletes do not advance unless they take it upon themselves. When given recommendations by athletes, does not listen. "
"Coach Martinovich relentlessly focuses on ensuring our success on the field every single week. Our success off the field and in the classroom means as much to him as winning. Coach chad has done a fantastic job of teaching us how to be respectable men on campus and in the community. His passion for improvement has been evident since day one. "
"Wendy is an amazing coach. She motivates the whole team and encourages fun, productive, and hard working practices. She is really your mom away from home and looks out for everyone. "
"Wendy is such an amazing coach. She is always there for us when we need her. She is like our mom away from home!!! She is also extremely knowledgeable and pushes us to our limit. Wendy is the best!!!!"
"Very experienced and has knowledge on all the little things that will make you better. He'll put you in a position to do your best when the moment is the biggest if you trust the system."
"He is very passionate about the sport and always has the players best interest in mind. He is a little lacking on tactics but makes up for it in his work rate and assistant coaches."
"She's tough on her athletes and demands a lot of scheduling adjustments from her athletes to focus on sports rather academics. A successful coach and those who wish to perform in a high stress/ intensity program should attend her program. "
"Good coach, knows what he is doing. Can sometimes get very set in his ways with drills and such but overall knows how to win and you will be part of a successful program "
"Coach Greene is not only an amazing coach, but an even better person. He'll do absolutely anything for his players, friends, and family. He taught his players to take pride in everything they do, on and off the field. "
"Academically the school is great but our basketball experience so far has been less than expected.
Cons: The coach doesn’t demonstrate a high basketball IQ. We have lost games due to his poor decisions. He definitely has favorites that he plays even when it’s not best for the team. His subbing is very frustrating. It definitely makes you wonder if the AD is paying attention.
Pros: The girls seem to like the coach off the court. He tries to find fun team activities. The coach is friendly with the parents but it’s very awkward for him, but he does have favorite parents too!
Overall, our daughter is making lifelong friends and that is what ultimately matters. These girls have 4 years to make it to the ncaa and it’s heartbreaking watching them work so hard and know they won’t even rank. We have a couple years remaining and pray they won’t be as frustrating as the previous. "
"Not what you think you’re signing up for. Rarely actually coaches, instead gossips behind your back about all your flaws. Heavily plays favorites. Recruits great talent but often only plays them for their first few seasons until the lack of coaching catches up. Expects too much of you on the field and not very accommodating of academics. Negative environment that affected players’ mental health."
