"Emotionless, would never want him to coach any kid of mine.Doesnt talk to his players at all. Gets handed incredible athletes and he gets all the credit for it."
"Nice person and knows the game well, but is a lazy coach. Often would tell the huddle during struggles in the match “your huddle” and not coach. Does not actively coach during matches unless you are his favorite player or two. Makes the graduate assistants do everything. Lies to players about promising playing time. When he does coach he gives good advice but is often times too lazy. Does everything last minute and doesn’t really advocate for his athletes in the athletic department. "
"He is lucky he is under such a great head coach otherwise recruits would never sign. Not well liked by his own defense players. They play because the like the head coach. "
"Very hypocritical and lacks transparency. Says he doesn’t care about garbage yardage then proceeds to give garbage yardage. Complains about his workload, lashes out at swimmers, lacks empathy, and is a poor communicator. Only wants to deal with the “in the pool” matters and doesn’t not want to know personal details of swimmers outside of the pool. "
"Overall a coach that shouldn't be leading a team at the Division I level. Practices are not consistent with specific training for athletes. Very few swimmers were able to progress under him. Very awkward, and unable to communicate well with his team and hold swimmers and coaches accountable. Great assistant coaching staff but seems like they have no say."
"A coach that cares about his swimmers but who’s training style lacks individuality. Seems we trained for open water swimming rather than specific races that we’ve specialized in. Believes yards+aerobic ability = success but yards swimming is far past that training style. Sets are mentally draining and the sets made the training environment negative. "
"Not good at communication, often not paying attention during practices, “garbage yardage”, not motivating at meets, overall disorganized. You can tell he does care about his athletes and their success but does not show it well. Training is very generic and not very individualized, felt like I didn’t see as much improvement as I should’ve. "
"Coach Matt is very caring but has a hard time expressing himself and what he wants. Overall though his way of training is great and I couldn’t ask for a better collegiate coach. "
"Very direct and puts you in tough situations to expose your weaknesses and then he will target those weaknesses and it’s up to the player to improve or sadly be replace in the next recruiting class. A very intelligent, straight forward and to the point kind of coach."
"No new conversations, always the same. He never motivated me to swim. He uses the assistant coach to coach the other swimmers while he praises the top 5. His workouts are taken from other colleges, "because it's what they do" and not what you need. Be prepared, he will often talk negatively about you behind your back like a young girl at recess. "
"Beats around the bush, hard to communicate and approach when having concerns or issues. Knowledgeable about the sport in some aspects, but doesn't pay attention to what works for you rather than what he thinks is best. Pays attention only to the better swimmers. "
"i played for coach frost for 1.5 years at uindy. those 1.5 years were the worst times of my life. before i get into why it was so miserable, i would be doing her a dishonor by not mentioning that she is extremely knowledgeable and knows the game of softball, clearly she has a winning team every year. however, if you are not one of her favorites or a starter, do not expect much at all. i worked my butt off day in and day out and i never received any validation or playing time even if i was just as good as the other girl. i witnessed other girls doing the same thing for 4 years and received little to no playing time. i understand this is college and not a situation where everyone is going to get a chance but it is discouraging and disheartening when you spend so much time and energy and not seeing it pay off. coach frost recruits players she does not want to play against and then uses them for her advantage. i vividly remember i got hurt my freshman year and she ridiculed me for it and did not seem to care at all. i told her my tendinitis was acting up in my arm and she did not let me rest or anything which has permanently affected my arm even to this day, 3 years after i quit. there is so much more i can say but it is hard to put it into text. there are girls on the team in their 4th year who have expressed to me that they are only still on the team because of the money and not at all because they like coach or the team. if you want to be part of a winning team than uindy is the place to be. but, if you want to be treated like a person and respected, avoid coach frost. i can say without a doubt that i am no much happier not being apart of her team anymore.
