"created a better team culture than the previous coach but still had a poor environment, awful team culture, and lots of dishonesty from the coaching staff "
"Emotionally and verbally abusive towards women. Dave Nolan says what he wants when he wants and is never held accountable for inappropriate comments. He routinely makes disparaging remarks about most players on the team including comments about weight and intelligence and plays it off as a joke. I think within the soccer community Dave is seen as a funny/comedic guy, but in reality, he is intentionally cruel with his comments and will say things just to hurt players feelings in front of their peers or in individual meetings. His on the field success should be attributed to the players themselves rather than his coaching. Georgetown is able to recruit skillful players, via their prestige and legacy, that are thrown into his disjoined coaching style which they then make the best of (or suffer the consequences). Despite the head coach, the team was able to foster a passionate and dedicated environment of women trying to support each other. Regardless of my interactions with the head coach, I loved my time with the Georgetown Women's Soccer Team, it just certainly would have been better with a more compassionate and empathetic leader. I think the program can achieve much more than just a repeated conference title within the Big East if they are able to find a coach staff (especially starting with the head coach) that can foster a positive and competitive environment that builds up women rather than tearing them down. "
"Sarcastic and insensitive. Got to have the thickest of skin to play for Dave. Poor communicator of desired style of play. Players play scared. If attempt to discuss concerns / feelings those discussion points are turned on the player and no acknowledgement is made to possible issues. Openly tells freshman they are “lower than pond scum”. Comments on players appearance (hair, height, skin tone, weight); incorporating into nicknames. Then in the same conversation will criticize their confidence. Sees player injuries as weakness and opportunity to ignore and criticize the player - “I would shoot you if you were a horse”.
Assistant coaches have no voice in coaching and make no attempt to protect players. Poor communication between coaches, strength coach and trainer so that difficult to return after injury. Absent focus on nutrition.
Dave values seniority over skill/ability. Brings in grad students yearly for unnecessary positions and then finds any place to put them on the field, often in positions they have never played before. Openly has preferred players.
Often touts that Georgetown players do not transfer. Once in the program I realized that they quit instead of transfer - every class by senior year at least 1 player quits. Players value their education.
Encourages academics. GPA required to be >3.0. May discourage certain majors to avoid competition with soccer.
The strength of the program lies in the players - hard workers who do not complain and supportive of one another. Competitive with one another in a positive way. Team goes out together frequently. Knows how to have a good time. Loved my class! Friends for life!
The success of the team lies in the attitudes and work ethic of the players. Wish the coach had more self awareness, respect for players and staff, created a positive coaching environment.

"Coach Naomi is one of the best additions to Loyola Women's Soccer Team. She believes in us, understands our situations, and respects us as people. She has truly helped me on the field improve in areas I was struggling in. "
"Lee is an incredibly coach. He truly cares about everyone on the roster and wants to see the team succeed on and off the water. He is receptive to the opinions of his rowers, is incredibly approachable, and supremely knowledgeable about the sport. He was one of my favorite parts about attending Georgetown."
"A great coach, but even better man. He treats and cares for all of his players equally and as if they are his own children. He has an open-door policy and is always going to listen, no matter what the topic is. There were multiple instances in my college career that he helped me through personal rough patches as well on field plateaus. "
"He is very straightforward and honest. He will make you mentally tough. He really cares about his athletes. Every decision he makes whether it is a drill, a play, a practice program, there is always a reason behind it. ALWAYS. He has a great knowledge of volleyball and knows how to manage a team and game. "

"Great Coach. Great guy. Offended by the negative comments on here. First, if you think Coach is a bad guy you obviously don't know him. And I don't know any true competitors who commit to something without believing they can win. I fully believe in Coach Sgarlata and our team, and expect wins this season under our new OC--appointed by Coach Sgar."
"(2/2)cared way too much about things that had nothing to do with football because of the "culture" he was trying to build. I agree with one of the previous posts saying he has no individualism. It felt as if every offseason he would read a different coaching book which he'd use quotes from. Not all his fault the program sucks, but he doesn't help."
"(1/2): Rob is either delusional or is just lying through his teeth. I think he cares about the program and *most* players, but that simply isn't enough to overcome the weaknesses of the program. I agree that he does a good job of finding jobs for his players. Other than that I disagree with most of the posts on here. The program truly is a mirage. "
"The worst move they could have made was making Sgar the head coach. The athletics department doesn't care about football, which is probably why they chose him as head coach. He will always fall in line and do whatever they say. Their football program is merely a mirage, they have it because it looks good on paper, they couldn't care less about it. "
"After reading all these other comments, I can tell that the members who posted them either work for Georgetown or were some soft/wealthy player from the NE. Robby boy seems to really enjoy the feeling of losing, He has no style or sense of individualism as a coach. He is merely a mitch match of quotes that he has stolen from other great coaches. "
"I will keep in touch with Gordie for the rest of my life. He is not only helpful on the court, but off the court as well. Although he is a scatter-brain, he is always fun to be around and cares about each of his players individually. I rarely go to practice without cracking up."
"Maybe not meant to be a head coach. She is abosloutly a good person, and she cares about the players and their well being. She either doesn't know how to be a head coach or needs to figure out how she wants to coach, and fast."
"Knows the game inside and out and will help you grow to be a better soccer player, but definitely has some favorites in the sense that he sticks to his top 11 and doesn't budge from there. Very honest as a coach once you have him, but while recruiting overexaggerated promises a little big"
"He would be a better coach if he was able to focus on one team instead of men's and women's. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a good guy and makes it all work. He does care about every player."
"Coach definitely takes the time to look out for certain guys on the team and makes sure that they are taken care of. One piece of advice... if you are interested in getting something from him or his support make sure to constantly politely remind him since he is juggling so many things. Proud to have been a hoya. "
"I think that she wants the best for us but sometimes she doesn't always listen to what we have to say. I believe if she were able to make a more conscious effort with things we'd be a lot more successful. "
"She is changing her coaching style to how she actually wants to coach which is being able to hold the team accountable in our actions and to be able to encourage us while doing that. "
"Coach McKenzie just started coaching us towards the end of 2016 as we began training for indoor season and ever since then, I have truly enjoyed my time with him. He is a funny, relatable, and passionate coach that truly cares not only about Track and Field, but also about his athletes' well-being. He pushes us to be better and do better in everything we do. We can always come to him about problems relating to track, life, or any other area of discussion. I'm grateful to have him as a coach."
"very knowledgable coach who puts an emphasis on being a student first. Cares about how we are doing as players, but also has no sympathy for those who do not try their hardest. He only plays the players he views as the top 11 and once he gets an idea about you, you will never change his mind. Very accessible and takes pride in being very straight forward. Can sometimes exaggerate his promises to you during the recruiting promise, so take everything with a grain of salt."
"He is a players coach for sure. He understands that there is more than just football when attending a university like Georgetown. He makes an effort to stay on top of his students classes and work. The only downside is he can tend to look too deep into minor details. Yet, his strongest accolade is that he is very determined to get his players a job once they graduate, that is a major part of the equation when playing for Sgarlata. He wants you to have a job when you graduate from Georgetown."
"Coach Mike Smith is the best coach that I have ever worked with. He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about running and works to make every athlete on our team a priority. He pours himself into his work and into making us the best athletes that we can be. Amazing person, coach and friend."
"Her leadership structure is bs. She selects captains who worship her and will enforce her policies. She does not select captains based on their athletic abilities or their abilities to effectively lead the team. Below the captains are what she refers to as a leadership council containing 4 members, who are underclassmen who she believes have leadership qualities. Again this is bs. She does not adapt to problems and tries to solve them by repeating the same methods."
"Very direct, and motivational coach. Coach Warne is able to provide his players with the necessary skills, and resources to make them better athletes/leaders. "
